best AFR safety/performance,

sorry for a newb question i just got my evo 3 days ago and i wanted to jump right in to tuning, wideband 02 on the way, i live in cali 91 octaine what should the AFR be at for it to run safet yet get the most performance in the mid and upper range. also as far as knock goes how many counts would you say is generaly acceptable as far as higher rpm knock goes.

A:F required will vary from car to car, timing, boost used and so forth , amount of knock allowed is the amount that doesn't pull timing (or lower OCT number) with a safety margin depending how risky you feel. Sorry for newby answer

11.0-11.2 at WOT. But be careful cars do vary. Watch out for knock.

how many knock counts until our ECU's pull timing or switch to low octaine and low timing map?

To answer his question 11.0-11.2 Safe 11.2-7 More performance. Depending on the car the car might knock @ 11.5 and pull timing which is where your HP is.

Not too sure how many knocks will put it into the lower timing map.

3 knock counts or more will usually pull timing.

i agree, just make sure you keep track of your knock......ive had my AFRs in the low 12s and i didnt have any knock........it just all depends on how you have you boost and timing, ect.............
