I would like to reiterate this statement.

All of our open projects should be discussed openly. If you have a question, emailing the developer is probally not a good first action. Consult the community. If they can't answer the question, 9 times out of ten they'll say go bug the author. It works better for everybody that way. Questions get answered faster.

It's not that I mind getting questions about software I write, but it can be quite time consuming to answer them if they are not:

1) techical
2) very specific.

This also avoids getting the univeral response to go read something whenever you ask a question.

I think Jack should do a weekly rant, and when we don't understand what he's on about, we can bug him to explain.

LOL There really needs to be a technical rant forum.. But I'm sure the top topic would be BOV questions..

I keep a library of maps, it doesnt mean that I want to always share them.

I dont why your car is doing what it is I am not standing next to it.

I cant "remote" tune your car and it be perfect so the reply email about how it sucks is unneeded.

I am not Burger King, I will not do things your way.

If I dont respond there is a reason, resending the mesage thinking it didnt get delivered only further insulates the response.

I am not on trial and will not offer evidence to support my views except where needed. Refer to rant 4.

If something is above your ability there are 2 options. Have someone else that you pay do it, or take the time to babystep your way through it and hopefully LEARN. If you fail at step 2 refer to step 1.

Some things I take for granted because I have done them since I was 5. My explanations dont always involve more than 1 sentence.

[rant=off/]

Now I cant say anyone here on this board has pushed me to all of these, but after YEARS and YEARS on forums sooner or later these have all been covered. You start with domestics (where when you are my age you are always a newb regardless of time spent), admin Honda boards, then go to subaru boards, back to Honda boards, then to Mitsu boards and you'll catch the feeling.

jack I feel your pain...Have a drink, rev on the Malibu to relieve stress (my father and I's project 66 works great for me), and have a happy holiday season.

Jack, I can relate. Every time someone asks me about my rim (buddy club p1QF 17x9 +35mm @ 14.5lbs) they always ask if I need spacers even though I go through great lengths to keep people informed that yes indeed you truely do need a 3mm spacer to clear the front calipers...

People really need to search more before asking any question.

Loved the vid. I used to to be the admin/mod for a pretty active board. I would have liked to make this vid a "sticky".

MJ,

Don't you love the "xtensibility" of xml...

Funny you mention the rim thing..

I'm running 18x9 40mm, no spacers and used to CONSTANTLY be told you cannot run wheels with that offset on an Evo..

Anyway, I think that video should be:

1) Required reading by everyone who participates in forums
2) Required reading by EVERYONE who uses AOL, EVERY time they log on..

The problem here is that so many people think they know what they are talking about, then give terrible advice.

If this was the dsm forums, you would be one of the hundreds. I could probably count on my hands how many people i trust from this site.

I like to think over time things will get better as more is known about the car..

Unfortunately, as the cars go to third and fourth owners theres a few things I notice..

1) Their unbelievably cheap, and won't even spend an appropriate amount to do something the correct way the first time.

2) Bad taste is rampant..

3) WTF is the obscession with VTA

4) Tuning can by done by anyone with the patience and tools to do the job right.. If you don't want to buy the tools, or take the time to learn, then it won't get done right.

5) Why should I tune someones car for free? Do I somehow owe them something?

You know that feeling you have when you finally get to used the bathroom and have a good 10-15 minute session of alone time to relieve your bowels? I kinda feel like that after reading this. Refreshed and ready to tackle the forums. March on!

::Note, the first line was a tasteless attempt at simple humor. Please do not be moved to flame me for such a lousy revelation of ones relief to using a restroom.::
