The Best ECU Flash Tuner
i have evo scan. i did a few logs with the car. i dont know what im looking at other then knock, wideband, rpm, timming. it looked good to me. john told me to log the car and send it back to him for review. well i did and he sent me a new map. he said try this. i did. my car was even smoother, faster, cleaner.. i called him personaly and he took the time to explane what he had done. i was so happy. he then said yo dan log it again and send it back just to make sure it is perfect. well as to his request i did. guess what. i did NOT get a new map back. it was spot on. he said he cant make any changes because it is logging perfect. my car just pull's and pull's. smooth. so smooth i forget how fast im going.... need i say more???????????????
the guy talks to you when your on the phone because he picks up. he does not quick question you and does not hint to get off the phone. if he has to go or cant talk at that moment then he says so. but he returns the phone call. he does not take 3 weeks or more to return an email, phone call or your flash. 98% of the time you have your new map within 24hours of sending him payment. i beleave i did mine on a weekend and i told him. i will wait to monday for my flash. i told him to enjoy his weekend. well i got it on that weekend. i was so happy. he does not tell you your mods suck. he does not down grade your car or your plan's for it. he talks to you as if you was his best friend for the past 2 years... he is friendly. i feel when i need a tip or an idea i have someone to call for a quick second and get a true response. im not the brightest person. i dont pick up on things real fast. john makes things so easy to understand for his costomers its great. i dont sit by the phone or computer wondering if i should pm him or call him for something because of what he may think. he makes me feel welcome to his line of work.
i can go on but need i say more??????????????????? no. like i said. get it done the right way the 1st time. john i love you. yea like that to. lol. j/k but i do love you.

Remote tuning a big turbo kit is a bad idea. Find someone close/local and a dyno. You have too many variables to consider to be able to tune it at a distance easily. I went through that with my WRX back in early 2002, and I got really tired of sending my unichip across the country all the time. Email might make it faster, but for reference my tune never did come out right. One reason I figured to take what I knew about Honda tuning (which I had been doing for 3 years at that point) and take matters into my own hands.
My input on the subject. All of those tuners mentioned are great, but I doubt that you will get the tune you want in anything resembling a timely manner if at all.

We have this experience.
Thats a good point, if someone has done enough they will have basemaps that are "close". Its no different for a stock turbo/injector setup. I didnt think of it quite like that at first.
I used to be a Subaru pro-tuner. The big issues I had with postal maps were controlling the specifications of the cars. The huge one that the Evo shares is the induction system which can so greatly offset the MAF calibration. The Evo has a much better knock control system than the earlier Subarus I used to do, although the lack of standard MAP sensor logging except on the JDM/UK IX is a pain.
What disturbs me are the quality of the maps that some popular tuners turn out on both sides of the Atlantic.
Some of it may be down to opinion, but the following that I've seen I generally dislike:
Disabled fuel cuts from excessively prolonged fuel cut timers and unachievable fuel cut limits
Lack of understanding of the boost desired engine load and offset
Not bothering to change the ignition or valve timing even on "custom" dyno maps
Excessive ignition timing for the intended fuel that leads to high knock sums which often results in less timing and smoothness than if it was mapped properly, even worse if there is no taper of timing with load, particularly dangerous if combined with the problems I mentioned earlier with poor boost control and no overboost fuel cut
Rough maps that show horrible lumps in fuelling and timing that can only be random mistakes or complete misunderstanding of how ECUs work
Thankfully these days nearly everyone uses wideband so we shouldn't have too many lean horrors unless standard maps are sent out to customers and an undiscovered fuel system problem or post MAF pre turbo air leak for example are unknown.
The standards can be astonishingly low IMHO.

There is one more irritant in maps that you did not mention: collapsing the high and low octane iginition maps and thus removing the safety net that these two maps are designed to maintain.
AS someone who has had many different cars built and tuned across the entire US, I have some advice for selecting your tuner. I've use UnderPressureResearch and Developement, Split-Second, Special Vehicle Concepts, Lamborghini U.S.A.-Platinum Motors, BarTuning-Houston, Evolution Motor Sports-Tempe, Buschur Racing, DynoFlash and others. These custom builds have been over a span of about 10 years. Needless to say, I've seen the best and the worst of them. A tuner or builder can be great at ONE SINGLE PHASE of their job, and totally fail in other areas. I've only had 2 tuners/builders meet and exceed all expectations. One of them is who you would expect, Lamborghini U.S.A. Total custom build of twin blown Lamborghini. Big money, big challenge, big results. I called to speak to the tuner and was NEVER put off. The other Great tuner/builder (more builder) is Buschur Racing. Dave and Dan have ALWAYS answered anything I asked. They are right at the top of the heap. Now as for the 'Ability to do it, but not coming through' group, Al- DynoFlash has tremendous ability to tune probably anything. His quality of what he does top notch. His responisveness sucks. His opinions have a tendency to close his mind to new things. Being responsive to the customer is very important, since many of us have a fear of choosing the wrong person to begin with. I've made several calls, pm's, guarantees and even up-front flight money as well as 3 pre-paid tunes when he got here, with a guarantee by me of 6 tunes whether time-slots were filled or not. Very little response after 2 of the cars were modded just for his trip, so now, they're being driven with mods, no tunes and very very little communication on when he can make it. Thats with prepaid time-slots, $500 flight money, and 6 guaranteed tunes. What does that tell you? EVOMS in temp (Porsche, Mercedes tuners) are liars and thieves. My car was broken into, parts stolen, poor workmanship, etc. etc. They eventually paid for about 10 percent of the damages but would not answer emails, phone calls, etc. EBC, AFR guage were stolen, side window broken out and many other stolen items and damage. Horrible. I post all of this to say one thing, do your research. Pay careful attention to not only what good things are said, but also, to the 'naysayer and griper'. We all want to think we chose the best so we have a tendency to pump up our own selection. I know I was hard on Al, but he's earned his reputation, good and bad. Would I use him again, yep, because he does good work. I'd just like to see him improve communication. Tuners need to understand that their customers have chosen them for a reason, don't make us regret it. I see that Jestr appears to be well though of, also. I hope all tuners take this post for what it is, an honest response from a good paying customer. Make your choices wisely.

well my whole plan was to get a tune from jestr or then i started to think about ttp, i just wanted a base map so my car can be drivable till i can get it in to buschur which is only 2 hrs away for me, so that they can custom tune it for me
I also was planning on taking my car to John but since he doesnt do installs and I am going to Scott to get my Cams and FP installed why not just have Scott eflash. From what I've heard they're both great guys and tuners. Note John's "name" seems to be known alittle more, doesnt me Scott isnt as good.
I say talk to both of them which ever feels right go with.
