Different animals altogether.. The PowerFC Is more akin to a Standalone.
You can EASILY accomplish anything you like with ECUFlash, well over 400whp are possible, and with a good tuner, or spending time on your own, it will be much more drivable than a standalone.
Since you like HKS products, the ultimate decision is up to you, and how strict the Emission/tampering laws are in your Location.
I've always liked the PowerFC for its features, but I don't like the fact that the software used to tune it are only available to Certified tuners, and there is no adjustment possible by the end-user. So keep that in mind.
(Edit, got the product confused with the FCON)

I just remembered that there is someone in australia who has figured out how to access some/many of the parameters of the PowerFC, and the PowerFC has a handheld controller that you can make some minor adjustments.
I got the HKS FCON-V Pro and the Apexi PowerFC confused..
But both don't have their tuning software available to the end user.
The reason why I don't recommend these products is there aren't many tuners "Certified" to have access to the software (In other words, have paid the rediculous training fee and other commitments you have to make in order to be entitled to it, stocking other parts, selling a minimum, making a minimum order, etc..)
Although if you really want it, and have a tuner nearby who can tune it, makes life easy for you. I always have this fear that the product will be discontinued, or the tuners will no longer want to sell it, etc, and the end user no longer can have anyone tune their car with the hardware.
At least with ECUFlash and the stock ECU, if you need to change tuners, you really only need to find someone who knows how to tune, since getting the hardware and software is as easy as a download and inexpensive cable purchase.
Although we're really only beginning to understand the stock ECU, Its easily as capable and powerful as any standalone out there... It *IS* a standalone Engine managment system, only we're still learning how it all works. But even now, we have access to most of the really important parameters to tune a car properly.

Thats cool.. I always got mixed responses when I asked if this was actually true..
The one thing everyone complained about was a lack of knock control on the PowerFC or full knock protection. Don't recall as its been a few years since I researched it.
