Questions about EcuFlash...

Well I just bought a '03 VIII and wanted to get some type of tuning and datalogging system before I begin modifying the car. What all do I need to begin using EcuFlash? What are the capabilities? Does it have datalogging? What items need to be purchased or downloaded? I searched for a tutorial or some basic starter information and really couldn't find anything. I have tuned several cars just never a OBDII car so I apologize if I ask some pretty basic questions. Thanks,

-Robert

Purchase the OpenPort 1.3M cable from Gruppe-S (PM them for best price)

Purchase EvoScan for $25

These two, in tandem, will log anything and everything, as well as support for wideband should you get one in the future.

But EvoScan won't flash.
You need to dl the latest version of EcuFlash as well. If you search for EFLASH, you'll find links to everything you'll need.

Ok so EcuFlash is simply buying a cable to connect your ecu to a laptop and downloading a program? That sounds too good to be true. I searched and I came up to so many versions and betas and things of that nature. I am really not sure what the beta is or what version I would need. Hopefully this won't take me as long to figure out as my old Motech did on the stang.

You need:
ECUflash- http://www.openecu.org/index.php?title=EcuFlash (ver 1.29)

Tactrix cable- http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php?products_id=34

This will allow you to pull your ROM and read your maps. To datalog you can use this for a 25 dollar fee

Evoscan ver .97- http://www.limitless.co.nz/EvoScan/

There are also other tools you can use such as a map tracer software to see what cells you run in and dataloglabs has a HP and TQ graphing functions to help you see if you're gaining more power while you tune.

Hope this helps and PM me if you have any questions.

What is the difference between the reflashing and the tuning software? Do I need to download both? I want to first get rid of the speed limiter and up the 2-step. Will the flash or tuning software handle these things?

one is flashing softwear one is real-time logging softwear.

You'll need the cabel and the flashing softwear to change your speedlimiter and 2step.

If i were you I would just get a 52dollar flash from jestr. You'll see a very nice improvement. His flashes are very safe too unlike other vendors.

No offense but I would rather do it myself. The only thing I need to figure out is how to use the program, how to install the program and the basic values of the tables and how they affect tuning.

Well no offence i just figured if you didn't have any business flashing your ecu if you didn't know anything about the softwear at all.

Also if you look in the tuning forums there are some pretty good write ups that explain how it works. Once you get the software EcuFlash and look at it most of it is pretty easy to figure out if you have experience with other tuning software. If you keep looking though there is some very good information in various threads already. Hope you get it figured out and good luck.

Evoscan will allow you to watch your logs so you know what values might need to be changed.

ECUflash will allow you to make the changes necessary and flash them to your computer.

like i said, if you are interested in showing up to the DFW evo meet tomorrow at chilis on northwest highway and 35 (by the cowboys stadium) at 6:30pm, i would be happy to show you how it all works. i'm bringing my laptop and all my tuning equipment in case people want a tune. if you would like to learn what software you need, what equipment, and what the values do, i can show you. if you can't make it, just message me and maybe you can hang out on one of the days us evo guys are all hanging out at my house working on cars.
