"No known code"?

I have been working on creating a new vvt map for my IX and when i got out of work i grabbed my car, pulled it into the shop and let it warm up a bit.

I turned it off, set-up my laptop and plugged in the OBDII connection and white connector. I loaded up the new map, test wrote it and it said it was successful.

So i left the car in the "on" position and clicked write to ECU and i got a few logs that said, "sending 0000, sending ffff" then "no known data" came up and it told me to review the log.

Does anyone know what happened?

Make sure the cable is connected to the car and the computer before opening Ecuflash. My car does this every once in a while. Just close the program and unplug the cable and reconnect it to the car and the computer then open Ecuflash.

Just put a battery booster on the car.. For some reason the Evo IX ECU's really sensitive to voltage and even one good write/read can be followed up with several failed ones.. The only way to guarantee it is to use a charger or booster while doing it, or flash it on a bench with a regulated power supply (I don't know of anyone with a bench harness.. )

This comes up all the time, the cold weather and just parasitic load on the battery just from being on for any period of time could be enough..

That is assuming you didn't alter the Init code, or have a reflash on the car that had a modified init code on it.. But you seemed to indicate having a successful test so I'm not sure if thats your issue.. If it is, just use my ECU Unlocker tool while using ECUFlash and it'll work.

Out of curiosity, did you do a search for the answer? This has come up several times this month alone.. even if you searched "No Known Code" you should get something..

Actually that search probably wouldn't work as expected, but some creative searching of your problem would have resulted in a few hits.

Thanks guys, I have read over a hundred threads and i have not seen this. I am sorry, i did not find any with this issue. When i searched it, it didnt really match well with what came up.

I really appreciate it though. Thanks again guys, im going out to try it again now, as i just drove 45 minutes from Coastal Nissan to my home, so the battery voltage should be okay.

Ill Report back what happens...

It worked guys. I didnt know that battery voltage was such a key component in flashing.

Unfortunatly, this aggressive mivec map doesnt really work too well...

This is my second VVT map other than stock. I flashed the JDM RS map and it worked pretty well, no knock, no timing pulled, felt strong.

This aggressive one seemed to make spool feel rough and a would constantly get two counts here, three counts there, one count a bunch of times. I know that it is not a lot of knock counts, but the fact that they keep appearing makes me not want to run this map.

Has anyone else tried this map?
