Vista Compatibility ?

Is anyone using Vista OS with ECUflash, Evoscan, and/or Mitsulogger.

I just got a new desktop from Dell and have had a lot of conflict issues with applications that worked on XP not working on Vista. Unfortunately my laptop (which I used for logging, tuning, etc.) just crashed and I may need to get a new one -- most of which seem to be shipping with just Vista.

Thoughts / advice?

I wish I had a straight answer for you but I don't. However nowadays you can easily setup your laptop to dual boot in either vista or XP.

I am using Vista just fine, everything runs just like it did when I had XP on my machine. I cannot speak as far as the upgrade version of Vista, because I am on a clean install using the x86 version though, if you have 64bit version, there may be issues. I run evoscan, logworks, mitsulogger, and ecuflash. All work just fine. The only program I am run into a problem with is Scantech. I opens and the program runs fine, but I get an error when trying to connect.

I had problems with evoscan, during the install it's looking for an older version of .NET than what comes with Vista. simply go download the old version and install it. It doesn't overwrite the new version and cause problems. Now you'll be able to install evoscan .97

This issue might have been addressed in the .98 version that's still being tested/developed.

Be careful with this since installing the older version can somtimes cause it to register itself over the newer version. When an app that depends on a new version comes along it may fail because of this. If possible strip the new version, install the old one, and then put the new one back on top.

Nah it should work fine. I did the same thing, installed net1.1 and net3.0 is automatic upon install. I use evoscan(net1.1), and mitsulogger(net2.0) just fine.

I guess its a matter of opinion, but to me it is far from crap and I remember when people would say the same thing about XP. One thing I will admit is that it does lack drivers which is just only a matter of time. I personally love the operating system, just the only thing I do not like is that it asks you so many times to when you try to open an app, and I have not figure out how to disable it yet.

I am not a fan of vista...to me it seems that msft keeps making things bigger and more clunky, rather than small, secure, and nimble....My wife even commented that the new Dell with Vista appears to be slower than her 3 yr. old laptop running XP...

.NET v1.1 is installed to a totally different folder on your system so it doesn't effect anything else. Its a good idea to install .NET v1.1 on Vista, hundreds of programs use it.

Vista is designed for the new generation of graphics cards and cpu's.. We used to upgrade computers every year, now you're complaining when you have to upgrade every 3yrs time for a faster computer and decent graphics card to take advantage of ALL the new awesome features of Vista!!

Just turn off the graphics features, if you have a **** graphics card.. then it will be back to normal XP speed.
