ECUFlashed, heavily modified, and still passes inspection.

I'm not sure how many can claim this..

Buschur Exhaust, Downpipe, WITH Catco catalytic converter.
Buschur Upper Intercooler Pipe kit, Blowthrough MAF integrated
Buschur Deluxe Intercooler
Upgraded Fuel Pump
HKS DLI-II
HKS SSQV (Not recirculated since I have a blowthrough aftermarket MAF)
Buschur GT35r Turbo kit
PTE 1000cc injectors
HKS 280 Cams 0/0
Buschur Mini-Battery Kit

Self-tuned ECUFlash, with a UTEC on top..

Just got the car inspected with this current combination and it passes NY State's Enhanced emissions inspection.

Car gets *NO* CEL lights...EVER, and completes all tests sucessfully. ECU Is NOT modified to disable any of these tests or sensors either.

I Intentionally went to a shop known to be "by the book" with inspections and not shady. I watched them go over the car to perform the inspection for both Visual and electronic testing, watched them hook up the computer to the ECU and perform all of the tests.

Who said you can't have your cake and eat it.

Besides, I didn't ask them to pass the car, I brought the car to them in a state that would pass ANYWHERE.

Congrats. Maryland has a loop-hole where the car has to be driven over the rollers to be tested, even if it does not have to go on the rollers. Thus, TEIN FLEX + CF Lip = too low. My car "passed" with a test pipe, 280 cams, reflash.......

I am supprised that your car passed without the MAF. I guess its because of the translator and still having a MAF installed..

I made this post to Illustrate that its not about slapping in a standalone to make more power, but being able to drive a car legally on the streets..

Simply put you can make the same power with the stock ECU as you can with an aftermarket standalone, and still drive it legally.

^ Malibu I agree about not needing a standalone but in my mind there is no way you are not going to make more power going to a standalone from a stock maf/ecu setup.

Aftermarket MAF solves that problem, but in reality I don't know that the MAF is really the problem, its the lack of understanding how to work with it that most people are having issues with.

/\ I have to agree with scorke. While the oem ecu has a vast array of tuning abilities with all of the technology out now. There is definatly power to be had from a standalone, but driveability and other factors has to go with the stock ecu...

Although I am making this statement based on me not being a tuner or anything close to that, I just wrench the cars...

So your opinion Malibu is definatly more certified than ours..

I think a majority of the difference might be MAF related, but simply that many tuners just aren't as familiar with the ECU as they would be a Standalone. Its hard to work on something that has little or no documentation, and very little information sharing up until recently. But you have to look at it from my perspective.. ANY ECU is a standalone engine management unit, its just a matter of working with the features and modifying it as needed.

I was surprised when I passed with no cat, o2 simulator and my mods too. I was just so scared to get a random p0300 code hahaha. It will come for like 2 weeks straight, and then all of a sudden dissappear and not show for like 5 3 months.

Yeah I was concerned about that too, but I spent some time looking at the snapshot info where it was happening and adjusted timing transitions and open/closed loop AFR transitions, and it went away. Haven't gotten one in 6 months or so.

Nice work MJ, unfortunatly there is still no way a GT35 kit or UICP's would pass California visual inspection at a legit smog station.
