MP3 player adapted to ECU uses? 2GB, USB, display, control buttons, 75 MIPS device
What I would find really useful is a simple device, with a press button to start/stop logging. It would be accessed via a laptop to download and view all the log files, it would be configured by the laptop for the logging parameters. No need for a screen no other functionality than the press button for logging to start stop.

What I plan:
Central CPU: Atmel Atmega 2560 at 16 Mhz
It has 4 UARTS. I plan one for K-Line, one for LC-1..., one for PC communication and for firmware updates. The device become a bootloader so no need to use a programming device.
So there is no need to use a Display. You can also use the com to communicate.
The logging will be done on the MMC/SD Card in the FAT format, so that every PC can read the files directly from the card.
There will be many free analog in and digital in/out pins witch can be used for several functions.
The hardest thing is, that these big cpu's are only avialable in 100 pin tqfp (0.5mm pitch) and this makes it impossible to handle it without a proper board.
My personal goals are: Be flexible as much as it can and be cheap.

what about a pocketlogger? www.pocketlogger.com

Palm OS seems to have fallen out of favor. Pocketlogger's runs off of OBDII not MUT. Most do not like the slow sampling rate of OBDII.
What could be done is port over the Windows software (Evoscan, Mitsulogger) to Windows CE. I bet most of the datalogging could be done on CE (or Palm for that matter).
I have an old palm that I would like to put back into use...as I do not always like lugging a laptop along and when racing the techs do not take kindly to a laptop that is not properly tied down. I would love to be able to log when racing with a small device.

windows mobile 5.0 (*grudge*), bluetooth, gps, wifi, 512M, compact flash. It works awesome for logging while racing.

I've already got a low overhead MUT library for logging on resource constrained devices. However with the tactrix cable you need USB host functionality. Anybody want to buy me a compactflash->usb adapter? :-p
I don't think you can do the 5 baud init with a regular UART like most boards have.

I'm so ahead of you.

I have been thinking of getting set up with MaxQData to improve my lap times.

yeah someone find an MMC -> USB adapter for PocketPC that would solve a lot of hassles .. I have been trying to do this for 8 months..
I might just build an Mp3 player from scratch to Support ALL protocol logging.. who wants to help me?
