Ignition map 1, 2, 3?? Knock??
Up until TTP's post I had always heard that low counts of knock sum did not pull timing.
I hope he will divulge as much information as he can, he may feel it is a professional secret.

I had also heard that single knock counts didn't pull timing, but I've seen it happen on my own logs. It seems kind of inconsistent though. When I was first working on tuning my VVT, I was only getting 2 counts at times and timing was being pulled. I didn't do a comparison to the timing maps to see exactly how much, but it was noticeable enough to feel during the run.
Recently when tuning my boost and fuel, I've seen 2 and 3 counts with no timing pull at times. It would be nice to haver a better understanding on the circumstances of when it will pull and when it will let the knock slide and not pull.

I had the same question yesterday and asked my tuner... he said map 1 is used when the engine is cold, map 2 is used for normal operations, and map 3 is used when there is a malfunction (limp mode).
I had the question because all 3 maps were the same on a previous tune I had, but on my new tune (with a different tuner) they are different.

Most say 3 counts will pull one degree. IIRC i have seen 1 &2 knock pull timing, but this is usually not the case.

1 KC can pull 1*.
Does on my viii.
I think it also matters whether you have hi oct timing map look exactly like low oct. Or if they are actually different. My guess is it wont pull anything after 1kc if your maps are identical.

my high and low maps are not the same. I don't believe in collapsing these maps. if you were to get a bad load of gas, your engine would still be able to pull timing, but if its bad enough, you may reach the point were the ecu is pulling all it can and you may still be having preignition and or detonation. s its best to have some sort of low ocatne maps.
I have still not seen one instance where 1 count pulled timing at all on my 8.
I have been looking too, I anylize the data in depth on all my logs, I log every day too. we shall see.
