Rail dust is a common problem with vehicles. I used to work for a detail shop and we would have to clay bar almost all of the new cars that were transported via railroad.
The wheels on a train product hot metal shavings that get into the air and once they land on the vehicles that are being transported it burns into the clearcoat.
Hope that helps, +1 on buying a claybar kit and setting aside an afternoon to do the work. Take your time and you will get them all out.
