help pls.. dad's been stealing my car for joy-rides
If I want to prevent that from happening can I try the following "valet" mode
1. Rev Limit 3,000 RPM
2. Speed Limit 30 km/h
By activating rev/speed limit at such low settings can it possibly harm the engine?
Also, how many times can one flash the standard ECU? I'll be doing this every week every friday and monday...... i've done some searches but have not gotten any concrete numbers? Heard from some ecutek forums that it can only be reflashed 100-200 times?
However if that's really the case (for whatever reason) just don't give him the keys. If you're gone over the weekend, take them with you. I don't know why you'd want to get in the habit of flashing the car's ECU twice a week. There IS a limit to the number of times the ECU can be reliably reflashed. It's a pretty big number, but do you really want to find out? It makes sense to do that when you have to get service done on the as that only happens a handful of times. Of course you can always try some of the other suggestions like unplugging the ECU, FP fuse, move out of the house, etc.
on a side note: i think i'll be that dad at some point. Also isn't reflashing for valet kind of cumbersome? You pull up to a place and go "Ehh, hold on, honey, i gotta reflash my car real quick....ok, can you put this laptop in your purse?"
wait with it while they do it. if they need a test drive to verify the alignment, tell them you'll be riding along. if they don't agree, then i guess they don't want your business anyway.
Or the old fashioned way:

Or this:

Then I think he understand what you want to say him.

I don't blame your dad for it. It is a great car after all. Personally, I think it might be going a little far as to get the cops on your dad though. What you have to do is talk to the guy and tell him to stop taking your car for joy rides. Lock up the steering wheel w/the club or something as suggested earlier.
Question, do you have to leave the car with your dad every weekend? If yes, he obviously loves the thing, talk to him about leaving the joy riding until you are there to go with. If that won't work take your keys along with you. Here is another idea, tell him to get his own
Write down your mileage and confront him [in a nice way] about the extra xxx number of miles on there. These are just more ideas to try since you are worried about the amount of times you can reflash your ECU.
can't hide the keys... we have to parallel park lots of cars at the house and the car will need to be moved almost everyday.. -_-'
as long as rev limiter is ok.. i can reflash it every wk
thanks guys
