LOL

I always tune in 3rd, then check in 4th, too.

It will only lock if the key is turned off. Leave it in to the ON position.

I usually get my tuned dialed in by doing several 3rd gear pulls. Then once I am happy with the tune I will do a 4th or 5th gear pull just to check the tune at higher loads. Usually its fine but sometimes it might need 1 degree of timing to be pulled.

If you go out for a cruise at night just bring your laptop and leave it logging. I usually encounter a porsche turbo or some kind of MB 55amg or 600 to play around with. That gets me plenty of 4th and 5th gear logs

Heh, I do the same thing on the interstate. I usually wait for a hill so I don't lose that much speed though

Now I have to watch for other Evos on the highway and stay far far away in case they are tuning "live"

I always do 3rd and 4th gear pulls to get it in the ball park then 1/4 mile runs to perfect it.

a car that's knock free in 3rd or 4th gear pulls will often knock like nuts from the heat generated rowing through the gears, especially when you shift into 4th.

I do most of my basic tuning in 3rd gear but always do some checking in the higher gears and full throttle 1st through 4th. 4th is especially helpful for getting your A/F fine tuned as you get a lot more samples in a run. I also do alot of daily driving datalogging as this is where my car spends most of it's time.

My logs, when I am serious, are on a mountain pass road, four lanes wide up about 3 degrees, from 3rd or 4th depending on following traffic.

But the ultimate for me was getting a log at the road course. kinds sad to see how much time I was not at wot. But plenty of 4 and 5 wot, just not from 3k.

you guys swapping maps at speed, I hope that is with some one else driving.

Do a 1-2-3 then brake do a 3rd brake and do a 4th . Repeat in opposite direction then check logs. Any heat soak will show. 'S what I do.
