ecuflash issues...

im having problems with 1.29a .... it usually works great, but yesterday i went to pull a map from somebody, and the screen that pops up that allows you to pick the type of car you are attempting to read was blank. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and still blank. I installed to a different drive, same issue. Does anyone have any ideas on this one ?

Have you tried deleting your whole OpenEcu folder from C:\Program Files?

Uninstall, delete folder, reinstall... should fix it

yes, i've done that about 3 or 4 times now ..... it doesnt seem to do anything to help. Also, im confused by this, but when i do the uninstall and remove the files, whenever i reinstall, ecuflash seems to know exactly where my stored maps are as well as the last one i opened...... it makes me think somewhere im missing something

Your xml for your ROM ID must have been changed when pulling the other car's ROM. I had the same problem when I installed 1.31, even after removing it and reinstalling 1.30.

When opened ECU it was blank and asked questions like "define from scatch".

I fixed it by editing the current problematic XmL with a working notepad version I had saved in the past by pasting over in the "edit" option.

Not sure if that would work for you or if it's a foolproof method but it worked for me

Reg key probably isn't being deleted on uninstall.

Backup the following regkey to the desktop

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OpenECU

Then uninstall ecuflash. Go to to %programfiles%\OpenECU and delete it and try again. Delete the key too if you want it to forget. Also if the 05 rom is bust on your machine you need to be specific about which rom ID it is. There are a lot of them .

The fact that you said Ecuflash knows where your Rom files are means that under options the path to your rom metadata folder might have changed as well as the default location
for stored maps. When I have had similar problems changing the locations to the correct ones has helped. You could also try installing to a different directory and then checking the default paths to reflect the new install location.
Is it possible you added a .xml file after the initial installation of ecuflash? If yes then you would need that definition. I have to add a seperate group of stock rom definitions to get my Ecuflash to read more stock rom images of different ecu versions.
I keep a copy of a working ecuflash installed folder along with run it on several computers just in case

Good luck in solving your problem I realize it can be real frustrating

PS if you uninstall it does not remove the ecuflash folder (in my experiences) you have to manually delete it then potentially do the registry edit then reboot and reinstall

update :

no changes lol

i removed the line from the registry, a deleted all of the folders, it only made me have to show ecuflash where the maps were. If i use version 1.30 or 1.31, it wont connect to the car. I even tried using the drivers from 1.28 still no luck. Im back to 1.29a, it reads the car, but on the 05 VIII i have in the garage, it pulls the map but all the info is blank... rom info looks like it is suppose to i think. i can read my IX maps, i can read my 03 viii maps, i dont have any 04 to look at that i know of.
Somebody has to have some other ideas here

Are you sure the xml for this ROM is in the directory you have pointed ECUflash to?

pretty positive....

now, if i install the program into c:\ecuflash, i can use the viii roms and the ix roms no problem.... but any changes i make to my ix xml such as 2 byte load etc, do not show up in ecuflash as option..... if i install it into c:\program files\open ecu\ecuflash then i can edit my xml how i want, it shows up in ecuflash, but i can read the 05 viii roms ....

this is really getting on my last few nerves

I had similar problems and it turned out to be the path ecuflash was pointing to under options. YMMV
