Vendour recommendations and experiences please

I'm new to ECUFLASH but am keen to try it as compared to ECUtek it is more financially viable as my car will be changing on a monthly basis as monies come in , and i am also eager to learn more about my car and the ecu

I'm in the UK and own a grey Import JDM EVO IX, when i get the tune my car will have basic mods, 3inch TBE, Air box mod and uprated panel filter and a fuel pump. Maybe a APexi AVCR or other form of boost control.

I want to purchase a tune of a vendor that is trust worthy and reputable, Mellon seem to be the main name coming up but i just wanted to hear other peoples praises for their tuner of choice before i purchase. Also with vendour tunes are they locked so you have to flash their map on to the car or once i have a map from the vendour am i able to alter and manipulate the parameters in accordance with the development of my car.

Cheers

are far as vendors locking their tunes, it doesnt appear to be happening too much anymore, especially since a lot of great support is out there for cracking whatever they use to lock it. Also, there is a lot of very new info for how to use the factory computer to control boost all you want. Being a JDM model, yours may not be as dissected as ours is, but it is out there, and that would provide one less aftermarket part you need to buy.

personally I don't lock the ROM and check out www.mellontuning.com to learn about my process, pricing etc...

please beware, there are some vendors (not all) on here that recently posted on the forum claiming to have stopped their practice of locking the map. However, it's BS because I'm picking up their customers left and right..they were just tuned and it's still being locked

it's a cheap tactic to retain a customer that isn't satisfied with their tuning and shameful. Lucky for us someone has written a program that can help us access a locked ROM so it can be re-tuned properly

I've never understood how somone can make a mailorder Flash. Can you explain the process, are you tuning based on knock sum?

I'll keep this brief, but as you suspected, knock sum is a key ingredient but I also look at fuel, timing, RPM etc... I'll start out with a ROM that was successful on many other cars with the same mods and adjust it for the customer until it's perfected.

Check out GTOdesign at the MLR, he's in the UK, Hampshire if I remember correctly. Priced pretty competitively for Blighty.
