I have to tell you I think the additional charge for existing customers is a bad idea. When I purchased the software all future updates were listed as free.
I know alot of people are going to say its only $10 but when the original package was $15 this charge turns into a 66% mark up.
If I were you I would charge the additional $10 to new customers but existing customers shouldn't get shafted like this.
Lastly I would prefer to get useful items working prior to bling mods.

well everyone is entitled to an opinion and mine is that for the price of this software compared to its functionality and its ability it is a small price to pay, it only costs $25 to purchase this and if a major upgrade is an extra $10 I think its well worth it for one of the best pieces of software/ tools for the Evo,
just think about it does anybody think this software is worth $35????
I certainly do,
and if an extra $10 means that it keeps Hamish interested in upgrading and developing this software that is fine with me,
after all nobody works for nothing,
just my opinion,

If I have read it correctly.
The $10 upgrade fee for V2.0 (not 1.1) is only for those that originally paid $15 for evoscan.
Those that paid $25 will get the v2.0 update at no extra cost.
So at the end of the day, everyone will have paid exactly the same price.
Or did I missunderstand something ?

I honestly think the upgrade fee is reasonable regardless of the percentage it is. Evoscan is really the all in one package. Sure you can use some of the other free loggers and they work excellent...but if you want a quick view in graph format you have to dick around with excel or use Data Log Lab which is a cost as well.
Would you expect any software dev/company to give free updates away forever just because the core is the same? You'd only have to buy MS Office 1 time then

Hi guys,
- V1.0 issues include... more timeouts than v.98/.99, how did that happen? I dunno, only minor retry code changes were made and .net 2.0 was used. Any ideas? Speed isn't accurate on some vehicles now.. how did that happen? did I change the data.xml between versions? or do people just need to select the UK speed conversion menu option? Zietronix wideband support was added, but is it actually working accurately for anyone? please email me your csv serial port logs if its not. Also V1.0 definately fixed international decimal point support problem, so thumbs up for that
Speed wasn't correct for me on 1.0 alpha. I checked the formula
- V1.0 feedback required, is the Realtime graphing working ok? is the Power graph accurate enough?
Power graphing is rarely accurate i would say, probably because of the speed issue.
- V1.1 will be released as a stable base version, all new features except the MapTracer and new ECU support, and will be emailed to all existing members.
- V2.0 with MapTracer + New ECU support will be released at the same time as V1.1 as a $10 upgrade to existing members... EvoScan v2.0 will not be emailed out to existing members, except those that registered in the past three Months. EvoScan V2.0 will remain at a low $25 for new registrations. Please dont complain about the $10 upgrade, I thought lots about this, I'm sure those who registered when it was $15 wont mind, and to keep this project moving at the speed it is, this is necessary to give us Evo enthiusiasts all the latest, best, and cheapest mitsubishi datalogging technology out there!
- When will V1.1 and V2.0 be released, it depends on the number of testers available on MSN to keep me focused
But its all been programmed and works good with minimal code bug tweaks left. Could be next week, could be Xmas.
- I have the ABS/AYC/ETACS and gforce sensors and other ecus now talking to EvoScan.. I need some help with the electronics side of things for this, I need some people to try it out on there vehicles, msn me... hamish_ahern@hotmail.com
- I have 2 graphics designers volunteering their time cheaply to do hundreds of new cool gauges! so I need a way of distributing these.. any ideas?
- Do you want a new feature added for everyone? Awesome, if you write up a functional specification with screenshots and explainations in word document format, I will program it into EvoScan straight away.
- Innovate full MTS chain logging has been programmed, but I need some sample serial port csv logs to rid those last few bugs with it. send them to me via msn messenger... hamish_ahern@hotmail.com
- GPS and Webcam recording support is nearly finished, do you have ideas you want to see implemented? if so send me a msn message and I'll send you the current development word doc for it, and you can add your notes with arrows to the screenshots.
- A lot of people want 1G/2G/3000GT support, I only have one confirmed report of this working with Evoscan (V1.0) (it was using an FTDI adapter with a homemade 0-5v cable, using the special Gen1/2 option I added to EvoScan which sets the baudrate correctly and skips the standard init sequence, and goes straight to datalogging values from the dataitem list.), do most of you only have a serial cable for these vehicles? if so I might need to add ComPort support back to EvoScan, which I dropped support for 12mths ago, in favour of the FTDI usb interface.
I was able to get EVOscan working on a 2nsd gen eclipse. I used the mitsubishi opition. I had to only log a few items to make it work (tps, RPM, timing)
Please post a new thread if your questions/answers do not relate directly to this post.. thank you.

I agree wit this. I paid 25$ with the notion that all other upgrades would be free. I think a better idea would be to raise the price to 35$ for all new customers
The $10 upgrade is not an unreasonable increase, however when I originally purchased the product for $15 it said all future upgrades would be free. It is the principle of the matter. But if I have to pay $10 for the new upgrade I will pay it and it will be worth it.
OK guys, fairness, correctness and everything else, forget about it.
$25 is peanuts, for the evoscan product. Its certainly worth $25 as it is now.
25 more for the other features would still be peanuts.
the way I read it, you can get a simple upgrade free or you can sit in first class for a fee.
I don't know how to do the work to make evoscan, I don't see many others doing a like product for less, or at all. MJ worked at it until it bored him, he says his wife, child and job came first but come on, we all know better than that.
If we have to anty up to get a fancy logger that is better than not getting a fancy logger at all.

No like cpoevo said, It is the principle of the matter.
WE payed 25$ (some 15, but I paid 25) for a product that said ALL UPGRADES WOULD BE FREE. So why the hel| would i pay for upgrades???.
I can understand that project get bigger and may take more time & money then originally thought, but if you made a contract with some one you CAN NOT change it. When evo4mad sold us this product w/ free upgrades, he made a contract with us, that he should up hold.
With that said, he can easily make new sales terms for NEW customer that can say upgrades cost or just charge new customer's 35$ or even $50. That would be a better idea and get the extra funds needed to keep the project rolling.
If he renames it to EvoScanTrace or whatever then it is a new product...or like an expansion pack to a game
You are going to get a free upgrade...but not a free upgrade + a new major feature.
Seriously, if you can drive an evo then you can afford $10. The only thing I can think that is even close to Evoscan(including all the features, not just logging) is the Ecu+ and that costs some serious cash.
I do understand everyone talking about the "principle" but come on...you can't honestly expect that your $25 covers a lifetime of man hours for upgrades and bug fixes. Don't forget...he could just fix every little bug and never release another update and everyone would be begging to pay for an upgrade for new features. Luckily Hamish does this because he wants the features for himself as well.

The upgrade fee issue is a tough one, indeed. Its difficult, especially when I think all of us can honestly relate to both arguments 50/50. We know its not easy (or cheap) for his hard work....sure. We all agree that terms should be adhered to....of course.
I purchased evoscan for $25 only a month ago and obviously would be upset if I had to pay more already (pretty sure you said tracer was free for purchases within 3 months though). Not to mention I still can't seem to get to the "onroad dyno" stuff you have screenshots of on the purchase page (any insight guys?).
I think the consensus is that we can live with this one particular increase THIS TIME but I think its wisest to increase the initial purchase price for new customers. The more the original customers rant and rave about how great the software is, the more likely newcomers will buy the new version at whatever cost you deem necessary.
As for the comment about evo owners having plenty of cash.....think again. Most evo owners are previous DSM'rs who barely can squeeze an evo into their budget. Previous DSM'rs = poor people lol. I got my evo because i was paying almost this much a month to keep my DSM running, this was just a more reliable solution. God knows I magically make my car/insurance payments on time every month......ramon noodles help make this happen, haha.

I think a lot of people are missing the point. I (as most of you on here should be since a lot of you drive evos with $349493903432932093232 of parts in them) can afford the $10. The problem is the principle of it, the agreement was that all future updates were free. If he wants to change that now, then it apply it to the customers who did not buy the product when that agreement was made (which is why I also pointed above that the agreement with those original customers needs to be clarified as well as maybe changing the agreements for future customers)
And don't go comparing this to other software (especially not Office since its near and dear to the heart
). I don't ever recall the other software mentioning that buying one version of it guaranteed that all future updates were free.
It always starts off small, first $10, then $20 then $50, before you know it you are at the "pro" logger prices. Then I don't want to hear a peep out of the people who posted that $10 is nothing above
.
I also don't care about some of the blingy new features...so if that's all the $10 is going to get me then I definitely won't be plopping down for that. Current software has most of what I need for now...but then again this is a hobby for me so
.
Either way Hamish YGPM!!

my point, as someone else mentioned. i purchased evoscan 4 months ago and paid $25. now do i have to pay the extra $10.... if i do then i am paying $35, the original users are paying $25 (15+10) and the new users are paying $25?
unless he meant all people who paid $25 will not pay more (as i am not sure when he actually started charging $25 instead of $15). as it goes $10 isint really much in the scheme of things and maptracer will be worth it and i will cough up the extra dosh. but i do think its unfair to charge me $35 when every one else (except ppl in my shoes) will be paying $25.
would love to have a clarification about this.
thankx
