any easier way to add additional column of ECU LOAD for evo8?

one of evo guy in local showed me the very easy way to add additional column in ecu load.

first click on high or low octane/fuel map, click 'edit', scroll down to 'edit map definition'. then you will see 'data values...', 'x-axis load', and 'y-axis RPM'.

if you change 'elements' under 'x-axis load' then you will get additional column on load section. for example, my elements is 18, if change it to 20, then it will give me 2 more columns for additional load.

i don't know if this is covered in the past, i am not sure if this is the right way to do it. expert can comment on it.

thanks all.

thanks fo Evan who showed me...

Interesting ... if adding columns was this simple then why would people go through the trouble of rescaling? I would be cautious of this method until it's proven to be reliable. I sure hope it's this easy though!

i know...i just rescaled my ecu by deleting lower load column not too long ago. and yesterday, local evo owner showed me 'why are you deleting? you can add columns easier way..'.

i am not really expert on ecuflash and hope to hear from the expert.

It's not like the volume control that goes to 11 instead of 10 in the movie Spinal Tap.

vroomevo, edit title to eliminate someone like me actually doing this

This is the only way to "add" scaling. Notice how the numerical progression differs from stock and allows more load to be tuned at the expense of some resolution.

i don't think people understand the relationship of the XML and the ROM. ECUFlash is a HEX Editor, with a nice abstraction described by XML.

the XML describes how to look at the ROM, its not actually changing the ROM layout. so if you change the XML you're not changing anything but how you edit/view the ROM. just because you tell ECUFlash that there's another load column to the right, doesn't mean there actually is one in the ROM.

if you do change the XML to add a column the way your describing - those extra cells you've just added are pointing to spots in the ROM, that have nothing to do with the MAP you're trying to edit.

At its worst, you end up overwriting other maps or ECU Code.

I wish it was that simple.

Someone with the experience to undo the damage do it and see what happens.

I noticed the ability to do this when viewing IX and VIII maps the other day.
I was like damn, where did my columns go?
(not realizing I had been on an IX map, when switching to an VIII)
Went back, edit, etc added them. And all types of jumble fu** popped up in the cells.
Hmm... maybe not a good idea. I set them back...
and HA! Someone else posted it this morning.

I was just reading the rescale too.

But the true test needs to be rescaling it to a load % that the car is likely to hit to see if it gets to that point or something else.

+1. Hey tephra, weren't you and jcsbanks looking into a way of using free space elsewhere in the rom as extra columns? Just curious to see what the outcome of that was (I don't need it but if it will save some people from doing odd stuff...)

it can be done but is quite time consuming... probably not worth the effort unless you are building some killa motor
