Evo ix loads of knocks

hi there,

im running a stock ix fq340 ,no ecu mods only hks mushroom filter and blow off valve, and yesterday i was logging with evoscan and realised im getting good few knocks thru rpm range, mostly around 3rpm and around 5rpm on deaccleration.
any ideas.

the fuel im using is nearly 100ron,so i doubt petrol is causing it?

thanks lads

I ran into the same problem immediately after installing the HKS RS. Not a fuel problem--I ran C-16 on the dyno just to see--same amount of knock and in the same ranges. I've spent quite a bit having this diagnosed...hate to think it is as simple as the CAI...I don't have another right now to test...if I come up w/one, I'll post my results.

HKS induction kits that I've seen before/after logs of have massive offsets in airflow meter readings so that it can be too lean and too advanced, especially on an FQ340 which is already tuned.

Knock on deacceleration..do you mean lift off knock? I also had this in my stock JDM 9. I had to reduce timing in the mid range load area (thanks to jcsbanks) to get rid of this knock.

Maybe the HKS filter is changing the path of air over MAF, typically causes a lower load reading than stock intake. If so then the ecu is running more advanced timing than normal causing knock.

As for the decel knock, since it presents no harm to engine, I wouldn't exhaust all your energy trying to solve that one

You can ignore the occaistional 1's or 2's in non boost areas of the map. Does it knock under boost/WOT?

Just following up on some posts...my EVO has been in the shop for quite a while. I need to make a few runs but, just driving, I don't feel the car pulling timing (dyno'ed at 390whp @25psi)...I'm waiting on my EVOscan 2.0 order...once installed on my lap, I'll post the results.

it could be the issue of going from "open loop" to "closed loop"
so your car is trying to follow your fuel map, then when you let up on the throttle and load decreases, your car is trying to get to 14.7 stoch. so it knocks a little.
You could adjust your open loop throttle maps to fix this problem.
