EDM MAP sensor

I have a IX GSR car, which I think is an EDM version.

It doesn't have a MAP sensor (or the hole for it) on the intake plenum.

What does this mean? How does my ecu read boost or know when it should hit boost cut?

The ECU simply does not know boost but "engine load", that is a function of air flow, that is related to boost (and other variables). An engine load too high leads to boost cut.

ok, cool.

On JDM / USDM vehicles with the 1bar / 3bar MAP sensors respectively, how are these used by the ECU / Engine?

On the USDM, the stock 1bar sensor is referenced by the EGR system. Mrfred could probably tell you each and every thing it's used for ...
