Cosworth IX Idle Problems...

I just got my car back from turbotrix yesterday after I got my cams installed with a tune. The idle is horrible, I mean I like the lope, that is fine. But it keeps trying to die and then revs itself to about 1100 rpms, then sometimes idles at 800-900rpms perfectly, then tries to die again. I noticed it likes to sit at around 500-600rpms and idle there but the AFR is above 17.0????

I also got installed 680cc injectors, a Meagan 02 housing, headstuds, and the AEM wideband.

Any ideas? Also, It threw a check engine light now, so Im **** out of ideas, I think it may be the tune.

Dan

Is it tuned for the new injectors?

All the cosworth Evo 9 cams we have installed purr like kittens. One of the many great attributes of the Evo 9.

Sounds like vac leak or really badly scaled injectors.

if the injectors are scaled and everything is good, try raising the timing at idle. Increasing from 5 to 7 on mine improved it a lot. I am also running the cosworth cams and denso 720s and it is very smooth and stable.

yeah, it sounds like the injector scaling is off, and its hunting...

send ur map to one of the helpful tuners on here

hint, razorlab, cbrd, jestr, etc for verification..

also, as stated, we tend to run them around 7-8 degrees...

make sure they didnt over adjust your bypass screw to compensate for them.

also check your MIVEC in the idle cells as well... if she is too advanced, she will lope like hell and have trouble idling

Above posts are great things to look for. I have cosi's, and have a few friends that do as well and they always idle great. When I tried to bump up the timing in my mivec table in the idle areas, they loped really bad (what I was going for) but also ran at 17afr on my wideband so I took it out. 5 degrees in those cells works great.

I would try to raise the timing in the idle cells to around 12 degrees, raise the targe idles to about 850-900 rpm and open the BIS screw slightly. Make sure mivec is zero at any rpm were it might poke into at idle as well, epsecialy with more aggresive maps.

My target is set at 938, which in about half the maps is stock. I dont know if I agree with the timing map increase though, mine ran really lean with more timing.

Definitely agree with the mivec having 0's though, thats the main thing.

It has to be tuned for the new injectors.

Along with everything else that's been said, you may also want to check to ensure that the cam timing is correct. By this, I mean make sure the markers on the cam gears and crank pully all line up as they should. I agree, though, that the most obvious culprit is a poor tune, air leak, or both.
