This thread has plenty of timing maps. I'm sure you can find a similar one to your setup. As for the A/F map, start with a stock one and try to keep the same map progression. It's a decent starting point for you.

ok i did some adjustments and made some progress. i have 2 small questions, how can you tell if youre running too much timing?? how do the numbers in the knock sensor filter map equal counts of knock?? like how many units equals one count of knock??

testudo i looked in that thread and most of those maps are on evo 9's. the only evo 8 one i saw had cams and meth installed. his map would be alot different from mine.

you dont want to touch any of the knock settings, its the ecu that will look at that jargan and interpret it into knock count.

do you have all the necessary gauges for tuning?

EGT is still a good gauge to have. As for timing look in the "knock sum" column. Once you start getting knock, dial back the timing map 1 degree.

egt is also good for high boost applications, where you dont want to run too lean....just a secondary way of seeing whats goin on aside from the WB.

but it sounds as if you got all the necessary gauges, get out there and get logging....instead of comparing, post up yours and i'm sure people will chime in with advice.

ok man. thanks. as i mentioned im new to tuning an evo. ive tuned mazdas, vws and hondas before. this is the first time tuning an evo for me though. i tuned it before with an afc. ive built a few dsms in the past though. i built my buddy's car and it ran a best of 10.8 in a 1st gen. not too bad. im running 24psi on pump gas. i wanna run around 32-33 on race gas. ive pretty much got all the supporting mods. i have cams but just havent installed them yet. i wanted to see what i could achieve with the setup now before i drop in the cams. im gonna post up my timing/afr maps tonight when i get home. thanks for the advice man.

You have a wideband so its better to use that to determine lean/rich than EGTs.

ok. i have a little problem. i was doing some logs last night and the car pulled hard as hell up to just over 5500. probably up to 5700rpms and then it cut out. almost like it missed. im gonna post up my timing and afr maps here in a minute so you guys can help me out. it also threw 2 codes when it happened. one is just an egr hose blown off. the other says its my vehicle speed sensor.

Agreed. The EGT gage in my car is my last resort "Oh **** something is really wrong and I am about to have to buy a shortblock soon" gage.
