Switch aircon (a/c) off when at WOT?

Thought came to my mind about disabling the a/c when at WOT. I did some searching, but didn't find anything conclusive. Has anyone worked on implimenting this? I seen some people post that the a/c disengages at 5k RPM, but I would rather it disengage at WOT. Would hate to loose the extra ponies between 3500-5000 rpm. Any ideas?

I'd guess it could be done... but only at the hands of the ECU gurus. They have it for DSMs, plus we have some of the AC parameters already defined in ECUFlash.

Im pretty sure the A/C clutch disengages when WOT is actuated from the factory.

I can't recall if it does it at a given throttle level, but the clutch is disengaged at a certain rpm... I think like 4500 or 5000 rpm. I found though in my eclipse, which behaves the same way, trusting the car to disengage the a/c on WOT runs led quickly to a destroyed a/c clutch to the point where parts were clanging around in the compressor wheel. I won't gamble with it in the EVO and always make sure to turn off the a/c before giving the car some gas.

Yes the car turns off the aircon at certain load levels. Mitsi have done this for years.

I WOULD trust the system. The same relay that is triggered by the ECU is the same one for when you turn the Aircon on/off.

Youve got other issues if your ecu stops outputting 5v signals

I don't believe this to be true. Last year I asked this same question after TalonEvo was at a dyno day. They threw his car on MAX AC for one run and it dropped a solid 20whp across the board. If anyone knows where the variable is to lower the rpm that it disables at (I have again *heard* its at 6000rpms but not confirmed) it would be awesome. Summer is upon us!

switches off @ 6000rpm.

still to high for my liking i have seen multiple ACs damaged due to this.

any ideas on how this can be changed?

Every ECU I have seen turns it off under high load, and also it will have an RPM switch off as well to protect the compressor. Most are off by 4500 to 5000rpm regardless of throttle or load input, and will usually have a few seconds of hysterisis to prevent it turning back on during gearchanges.

If it is at 6000rpm then we should be able to adjust it. Is there any info in the workshop manual about it?

i would think turning it off after 3500 would be ideal..

excatly, but right now at 6000 i have seen too many break and they are expensive here (500USD USED!) and very hard to get here in Trinidad.

I am looking, but it is a big sea out there!

Is anyone 100% certain it is 6000rpm when it turns off? This helps alot with speeding up the discovery. I might do some playing today if I get some time.
