Knock, Timing Help

My 05 GSR has few mods (turboback exhaust, and boost controller on bpr7es .28 gap) and I'm not particularly new to tuning, just new to tuning Evos.

As I understand it, these cars come relatively rich from the factory, and looking at the timing curve, I can see why. As you can see from the pictures of my rom, I have adjusted the fuel some, but have left the timing untouched. The first graph is at 22 psi, tapering down to 18-17 psi. As you can see from the fuel graph, I have richened it out a good amount in that region, and I am still getting loads of knock. When I turn the boost down (graph 2) to say 18psi (tapering down to 15 psi) I still get a little knock, but not so much.

At this point, I and richening up the map more than the stock map and I am still seeing knock at lower boost than stock. What do you VIII guys run as far as peak timing? My DSM never saw more then 15 deg @ WOT, so I was shocked to see 21 deg on this map, but I just attributed that to new technology in the Evo. Do most of you guys drop the timing down to run slightly more than stock boost (I don't' think 22 psi peak is asking to much from the stock turbo, besides most of the pull is in the 18/19 range anyways) ?

The Evo comes rich from the factory, but runs a pretty aggressive timing map. Do you run a wideband?

Yeah I would drop the timing down, to start out for a base right @ peak boost try around 2-3 degrees work your way up to around 12 @ 7k. and start leaning it out. That should get you going for now.

you may also be on the verge of seeing knock from running too rich at higher RPM. I started to see knock in the mid 9's. that's around where those 8's in your map might put you ...

Okay, so I am correct to assume that most Evo tuners retard their timing to around 15-16 deg @ WOT. I'm starting to think that this was a bad batch of fuel.

15-16 degrees is still a bit ... start lower. Go for 2º at peak torque/boost and 10º at redline. If you don't have knock bump it up.

Evo 8's can run a bit more timing up top than Evo 9's. Just FYI
