But anyways, you guys are saying that the whacked up timing in the middle is causing the knock? Big transitions, right? May I ask what load cells and what RPM cells?

Your looking at the clipped ECU load, You should be looking at 2byteload or at least calculated load.

There is a thread here where some of us have posted fully tuned timing maps.. take a look at some of those and then look at what you have. Make sure your looking at Evo VIII maps.

Fix the rescaling first.. that's never going to work right. Take a look at the rescale sticky for instructions. You should get a column from an unimportant area of your map.. not from the boost area of your map.

Your fuel targets go from 12.x to 9.2 to 12.x all in one pull. Is your tuner using a wideband to tune the car? I'm really not used to looking at maps with lean spool enabled but those 9.2's at spoolup tapering to 12 something looks scary.

just for reference, it is unlikely he will ever hit the 2000-2500 rpm +200+ load cells. especially with a green. with a 5th gear roll from 1500 rpm i soppose you could hit low 3xxx rpm and 200+ load, but who does that. i find it unlikely that the timing table is what is causing knock. i would want to see AFR plots before blaming it on the timing at 1750 rpm and 300 load

I'm lost. I'm gonna find a buddy to help me undestand all of this. I'll take a look over at some maps of other people too.

What rpm and load cell are you getting knock? How much timing are you running as you get knock? Post a log with tps/rpm/o2/timing/knock 3rd gear, 3000rpms - redline.

I'm gonna guess your knock sensor and your newly built motor are not getting along

Well, let me ask this. Should I rescale the load cells? Should I scale in more resolution in the higher load cells and put in less resolution in the lower load cells?

Start over with the OEM maps, it'll be easier that way.

Yup, I will. So I don't have to rescale the top load% cells using a stock map, correct?

Do a third gear 3-7k 100% throttle run while logging 2byteload/timing/knock counts and see what load cells your car sees and at what boost level; then you can figure out what you need to re-scale to.

start with a conventional, un-scaled stock map first and we go from there.

Well, I've been reading a lot lately about tuning, maybe it's time I'd try it out myself. Only thing that held me back was the load. I couldn't understant but I finally read about the 2byteload mod and it helps. Thanks for your inputs. I'll see what I can do from here on.

Yes, you will want more resolution under boost. You'll quickly over-run the stock map with a green and an intake on a VIII.

Want to see what a top notch tune should look like? I'm not suggesting you copy his map either as it will be all wrong for your car but this is a great example of a smooth map that is scaled nicely.

Even with a map a lot worse than that the car wouldn't knock as much as it is. And that map is pretty conservative.. 0* peak tq up to 10*? there is something else wrong with the car...

Yikes.

I think I'd rather run the stock maps :-P
