Cool I will find that thread...

I was just afraid to risk burning out the driver on my ECU with incorrect intall of this Solenoid... (mistakes can happen with stuff like this)

We've had GM 3 ports on Time Trial Circuit Evo's without resistors and they have been just fine.

IMO I view it this way;
You either want the simplicity of being able to crank a knob and dial in your boost almost mindlessly easy.
or~
You go with the stock ecu controlled boost with a GM 3 port solenoid and allow for some more flexibility but also some more seat time getting it dialed in.

The profec B should be your last option just short of shoving your spleen into the engine bay to control boost. Mainly because they are crap. And the additional cost of the controller (when the same can be done for the cost of the GM solenoid on the stock ecu) is completely unwarranted.

I prefer a cranky knob - *done* (mbc) mainly because there are other aspects of the car I would prefer to spend my limited time paying more attention to tuning.

But folks such as razorlab have got the EBC / stock ecu thing down to a science.
So if you want to go the EBC route... do whatever he says.

Trust me.
greddy profec B is pretty dang easy to use. i can set the boost on one faster then you can pull over, pop your hood, turn your knob, get back in the car and get going to try again. granted it is a lot more expensive then both the GM 3 port, and the MBC, the simplicity of adjusting the boost beats the 3 port by a huge margin, and on the fly adjustability plus hi/low boost is better then what you get with a MBC. also you get boost taper (with stock turbo) with a MBC, which you don't with a EBC or the GM 3 port.

also, once you have the thing installed, turning up the boost is done by turning a knob as well

So, I can get one at a decent price, and all I'm looking for is solid control of boost...

Doesnt have to be 40psi capable - I want to run max 25psi.

Hi & Low Boost - dialed from inside the car, simpler - better - faster!

If it can do that without any issues, then its a POS that meets all my requirements.

welllllll external EBC is "probably" better at dialing in boost, that said I couldn't get the HKS EVC to run properly, and have found GM3port + ECU boost good enough.

however you may want to run ECU boost so you can take advantage of mapswitching... running an external EBC means you need to change 2 things to switch maps instead of only 1 thing...

Thanks Tephra, thats an important bit of information...

I am gona order the GM 3port.

(Was just paranoid about stuffing up my ECU, but you guys have put my mind at a bit of ease on that one...)

ps. I found that with a T piece in the vacuum hose between the Wastegate diaphram and the BCS it does allow limited control of boost...
