Hey Alex,

I'm a bit bad about checking PM's on this site. I also don't see a PM from you for some reason? Can you send me a PM again and I will make sure to reply.

Cut up Box

Razor, I did the same "Cut up Stock Box" and noticed higher temps, instead of nothing at all. My guess is the hot air pulled thru the rad. with the puller fan and trapping the heat under the cut box. This was measured with and without the box. I ended up making this myself, along with routing a Smooth Bore Duct from McMaster-Carr, attached to a Universal Scoop from Pegasus, that I cut to fit in the driver side opening of the bumper. Also removed the weather stripping above the driver side head light, which actually dose work.

The paint is Grill paint with a rating of 2000F. I used some of that black Foam Tape and lined the under side of the Hood, to sandwich the snorkle.
I have no data to prove a reduction in temps., but after running around for awhile, I can touch the metal end of the filter and was cool to the touch.

Honestly I'm pretty happy with the stock air box w/new OEM filter or Works drop-in but I wanted to try an open filter for the fall / spring when it could possibly be of value.

Down here with the 100+ temp days I dont think open filter underhood would make more power but I'm willing to try and I'm sure the gains would be good during the winter.

Stealth box looks good too.

Humm you speak of familiar vendors, you wouldn't happen to be an engineer now? I use Misumi and McMaster-Carr at work all the time. Festo is also a good place to order parts for meth injection.

On another note I just found a GST filter and snagged it. Already cut up a stock airbox for it. Looking forward to see what temps I come up with in the PNW.

i have seen the same thing. Super high temps during these summer days. But Im on the stock box, on the freeway, WOT I saw 109*. During crusing, I saw 125-135*.

And keep your eyes and ears out for the "Prechiller". 36* intake temps 24/7. I cant say much more till its released in about 3-4 weeks, i believe..

This thing absolutely ROCKS for data logging. It fits in the Evo glove box with room to spare, uses flash mem for a hard-drive so knocks and vibrations won't crash it.

I'll be using it to data-log our Street Class Evo at Redline in Utah next week.

So far I love this thing.
Did you do anything to keep it from getting knocked around in the glovebox so much? Even if the laptop can take it, I think I'd get distracted from all the banging around in there.

Did you keep linux on it and run the logging software through an emulator, or did you install XP?
