Open loop cruise creates missfire when leaned beyond 15.2

Anything lean of 15.2 cruise creates a missfire. Spark advance a few degrees didn't help enough either. Might be the cold plugs (BPR9ES 0.022 gap) loading up which never presented a problem before this. Possible?

Another possibility are the coils (over 60,000 miles) being too old for the dilute, CO2 rich mix. Likely?

Never tried the coil test with a AA battery yet, has anyone done this with conclusive results?

I had the same problem with open loop cruise and leaned out to 15.5ish. Turn out to be the coils. Replaced coils and all is good.

Better buy some then, thanks.

What did you pay for a set?
