Turning off knock sensor under certain conditions?
I havent read the whole thread, however in several evos I have tuned the phantom knocks has gone away with using a little thicker grade oil (from 5w30 to 10w30) That gets rids of mine as well. Its worth a try.
Interesting. I've got the low load, low RPM knock myself and I've always used Mobile 1 10W30. This problem has been driving me nuts. I've tried lots of things myself, with very little success. I need to get some high octane petrol to run through it. I believe the last time I ran 100 Oct unleaded, the knock pretty much went away. Maybe that means mine is real?
I have seen phantom knock without reason in more than a few cars. Typically it has always been built motors, but even in my own car when the clutch started to go south I was getting random knock up to 36 counts at 21psi. I could hammer the throttle quickly mid pull and it would go away completely. I started watching the plugs close and turned it off to make sure I knew whether it was real or not.
Changed the clutch and the issue is all gone...strange but true.

This is a good thread. I did some test & tune this weekend at VIR and was able to log some data and recreate what I initially felt was "stuttering" at various RPMs in 3rd-5th gears.
It is a 2.0L built motor with forged Crower rods and pistons at 9:1 compression. Balance shaft removed.
The knock sensor voltage increased at every interval with the timing pulled. I have heard built motors could have the "phantom" knocks and makes sense now a bit. As the engine heated up after 5 laps or so, the "stuttering" would get less and less until it completely went away. This corrected with the timing being pulled less.
As may be previously asked, what is a good what to filter this out if I have AEM EMS?
Thanks for your input...
