Extension Cable for OP2.0?
Extension Cable for OP2.0?
Hello,
Will a J1962M type cable( as seen here) work as an extension? I have an Evo X and the OBD-II connection port is right where my leg hits and I am afraid of breaking the unit. Hopefully with an extension I can save the unit.

Okay, that's a heck of a nice idea for permanent installation; the 90-degree connector at the OBD-II port is "full of win", as they say.
Mount the other end in the cigarette tray (on an VIII or IX, anyway; sorry, don't know too much about the X cabin layout), and call it done, perhaps with a shorter 2-foot cable. This beats the semi-permanent installation I did with my FTDI cable under the console.
The maximum length from the vehicle to the device talking via OBD-II (in this case, the FTDI chip in your cable) is five meters, so as long as you stay well under that, I'd suspect you'll be fine.

How are you going to connect/extend the other connector? Why not just zip tie the OBDII connector out of the metal piece that holds it for a permanent install... possibly just zip tied on top of the metal piece and facing the center console for an easy passthrough?
