On a 1g DSM its 43. My evo isn't old enough to have these problems. However back in 2001 I spend a number of years trying to figure out "knock", what it meant, determining what was fake, and how to eliminate phantom knock. My car only had 88K back then, about the mileage many evo 8's are getting into........

This sounds like the problem I had...

Fixed it with replacing throttle body seals and BOOST LEAK TEST!! My car was leaking in like 3 different areas that the Evo was just driving not so well. Good hose clamps and t-bolt clamps are your friends.

The car did have leaks when i first attempted to tune. I recommended a leak test before we went further. a week later the test was done and I think 3 sizable leaks were repaired. the TB seals were leaking but were not repaired. That may be an inexpensive place to start and I will recommend it.
I believe that the balance shaft is still intact, but I'm not certain. I'll query and reply.

i used amsoil 0 w 30 stock filter....
since i have stock upper pipping that is being replaced as well.. as all my exhaust leaks and then we'll move on from there...
getting rid of the megan manifold, buschur dp, megan test pipe.... and new tb seals and ets upper ic piping with tial bov prob... and if the knock still happens i'm thinking motor mounts... any other issues i could address while the car is down?
the car is a 2005 with 32k... gsr if that helps

have same issues some times... random knock sometimes over 30 knockcounts but nothing would justify this type of knock except fantom knock from vibrations, rattles etc etc... Only off boost and only between 2500-3200 rpm...
I have solid front ams support/mount, ingalls stiffy, built tranny, ACT XT-SS clutch kit, buschur moustache bar.... Plenty of vibrations and noise... maybe the knock sensors are too sensitive...
On WOT absolutely zero knock!
