low octane altmaps - anyone using them

Hey Guys,

As per subject.

I am thinking of removing the altmaps for low-oct.

This will mean you have the same low-octane fuel and ignition map regardless of what map set you are on.

Anyone see a problem with this? I always set my low-oct maps the same anyways.

However E85 people might have some comments on this...

Cheers
D.

Here is my take.

A proper tune should never see the low-octane maps.

However, a proper tune doesn't mean much when there is a mechanical or fuel problem.

true, but the base low-octane fuel+ignition will still be in affect.

So if these are set sufficiently conservatively then it shouldn't be a problem.

Even on E85 those maps should still be fine.

So it can still revert to the non-alt map low-octane fuel/ign maps?

Ok then strip that crap from the alt-maps.

yeah, So say you had a ****LOAD of knock on your altmap then it would start interpolating to your regular (non altmap) low-octane maps.

I decided to think about doing this because I was forever setting my low-oct-altmaps to the same as my regular low-oct maps.

Ditch the low octane map.. I got to run like extra 5 mins to get my octane level back too 100 mark so my hi/low octane map are identical. Knock on CEL good enough to warn me for excessive knock so I'll backoff my throttle

Low octane alt maps are a waste of memory.

That's almost sig-worthy!

Well I will leave this to simmer overnight and recheck in the morning - But I have a feeling the outcome will be the same.

Back when a certain vendor was flashing the ecu they made the low and high the same. My car ran fine with it that way.

I am with you all in ditching the low all together. The only draw back is there isn't a "margin of safety" for that occasional bad tank of gas or sudden change in temp and pressure that could cause some strange engine conditions. Sometimes it is a good thing to have (in the words of a military man) "a reserve in case my main fails".

Yes - do eeeeeet.

If this frees up space for stuff like alt. IPW adder on start up then I am very much down with it.

I just want candy! Don't care about maps, either way is fine.. With proper injector scaling maps for E85 and reg gas are similar. So base low oct maps should do it just fine if you need that memory to add cool things (like a different/alternative boost adder and maybe BWGDC subtractor for dir boost control )
