94170015 work for all 03-04 Evos?

Just a quick affirmation. Does the 94170015 rom work for ALL 03-04 Evos? I think it does, but I just need confirmation on this.

Thanks

No, not all

At least not the modified version. I've had certain functions work on a few cars and corrupt one ecu. (Granted that may have just been a bad ECU or wiring or something). 14 and 15 sometimes malfunction when it comes to running on an originally 08 car. More often than not though it works and works very well. Again, I'm only talking about Tephra mod versions.

I believe is still has to be in the same "family" so to speak, meaning 94170008, 94170014, 94170015. If you have the 0008 rom I know personally you can update, and I'm pretty sure for the 0014 as well.

if the original romid was 94170008 or 94170014 then running 94170015 should NOT be a problem

Replacing a stock 94170008 with the stock 015 version works perfectly.

If tuned just transfer over your timing, fuel and anything else modified.

Any -03 - 04 ECU that originally came with a ROM ID prefixed with "9417" should work with any ROM that starts with "9417". It is a safe assumption that any ECU can accept a given ROM as long as the first 4 numbers on the original rom and the new rom match.

So like tephra says, it will work.

My Evo came from the factory with verison 94170011 (I think, it's been a while), I downgraded to 94170008 and since then, eventually upgraded to 94170014.

I'll have 94170015 on there with tephra's latest mods once the car is ready for another tune.

These were the different cases I came across (these were originally all 008s)

-Unresponsive to fuel map changing
-No modifications worked and random things stopped working such as ICS
-Crazy knock and poor running
-No start
-Killed ECU

I've flashed hundreds and hundreds of times and successfully roadraced on dozens of maps I've made so it wasn't just user error.

The point here is not that "tephra mods may screw up your ecu", but rather that in my experience, yes there are cases when an upgrade from 008 to 014 or 015 WITH TEPHRA MODS is a no-go. Honestly, it really wasn't a big deal (outside of the dead ECU one... which I really think may have been wiring) because you could just go back to an 008 that worked.
