EvoScan Openport1.3U is good it never needs upgrades.. Tactrix Openport2 has just had a firmware upgrade that renders it useless.

EvoScan new versions are only software features, not tyed to the hardware.

I hear there's a possibility of bugs in the newer software updates. Is there anything I should stay away from?

There are No EvoScan software issues that I know of, all are resolved in the beta7 version. the current status is always updated on this thread post #1. it was just updated today. There are some new features coming up, including Evo10 openport2 support, and Vista64bit Wideband support.

Hi, Hamish. I did have my pin #1 pulled out, following exactly the instructions from your website, but my "ABS" is still flashing though. Why?

Please help...

Had that problem with my cable.
Now, this is funny...because I did have the exact same problem with my laptop #1. EcuFlash not working but EvoScan seems to be working (at least it connected). Then, I somehow re-installed the driver, and BOOM, both EvoScan and Ecuflash in my laptop #1 started working (just like what funks is suggesting here). I was able to read my rom!!

Now, here is the good part, yesterday I was trying to set up my laptop #2, and no matter how I un/re-installing the apps and drivers, I was never able to get the Ecuflash to work and I was getting the same errors all over again. Also, by doing that, it somehow turned on my "Service Engine Soon" warning signal, and it would stay on afterward. Then, I plugged in my laptop #1, and guess what, it didn't work with the EcuFlash!! I got the same errors again TOO!!! However, I tested it with the EvoScan and it seemed to be working, and as soon as it got connected, it even turned off my "Service Engine Soon". Then, I ran out of time to test it further... Hamish, do you have an explanation for this weird behaviors??

In conclusion, i'd say that the cable itself is functioning, but it's really groofy with the drivers. Any help on this??

FYI, I just got my cable today, and was able to log with EVOscan and was able to read my ROM with ECUFlash. I am running XP, ECUFlash 1.40.2178, and EVOscan 2.5.

What operating system are you running?

Yeah definately install the ecuflash installer, and answer yes to its ftdi drivers, it has the latest. EcuFlash has been a pre-requisite install to using evoscan for as long as I can remember. then go to your device manager and do a uninstall driver, and then plug it in again using the latest drivers.

I am using the XP as well, and as I stated earlier, I did un-install the driver and re-install it by running "c:\...\ecuflash\driver...ptinst.exe" and I did see the drivers being installed and everything. And i even rebooted the machine once before the un-installation and once after the re-installation!! Because that's how I got it working last time, but it's not doing the magic this time though. And when you say "requisite", did you mean that Ecuflash should have been installed prior to EvoScan?? But even if I messed up this order, I have already tried un-installing and re-installing the driver though...so what'r the other help?? I still think that the cable is functioning but it's just something we've done it right to get it working w/ EcuFlash!!! HELP HELP HELp.....................Becoz I don't wanna buy another Tactrix!!!!!!

PS - we don't have problems with the EvoScan, the problems are with the EvoFlash though.

There are multiply drivers (2?) that were loaded when I plugged my cable in for the first time, so just uninstalling one may not do it...

I did a complete un-install of everything, and I also got the multiply drivers prompts too!! Here is exactly what i have done:

1) Turn off the car (cable plugged into both laptop and car, application running)
2) Un-install the "OpenPort" drivers in the "Device Manager"
3) Un-plug usb cable from laptop
4) Reboot laptop
5) run "c:\...EcuFlash\...ptinst.exe" go through the installation
6) plug in the usb cable
7) got prompts for driver installation more than once, and each time I tell the installer to load the drivers from the "c:\...EcuFlash\drivers\x86\"
8) Un-plug usp cable
9) Reboot laptop
10) Plug in usb to laptop
11) Start up the EvoFlash
12) Pick "read ecu" and proceed until to the prompt "...turn on key...hit OK"
13) Turn key to on (Tarmac light starts flashing, ABS sometimes flashes too and sometimes don't...weird)
14) Hit "Ok" right away
15) Ecuflash go thru the init sequence 3 times and BOOM...Failed!

Now, please correct or advise if you see anything. Any input will be highly appreciated!!

I stated in my first post that I was using Windows XP on my mac...so the details were there from the beginning.

I FINALLY got this working today. After confirming that my cable worked with S2Kracka's PC I decided to uninstall everything I could. I then installed JUST EvoScan and performed the EvoScan driver install (C:\Program Files\EvoScan\EvoScan v2.5\USB Drivers\x86\DPInst). During this install I received several notices that I was installing older versions than what was already installed. I then installed ECUFlash and skipped the OpenPort driver install.

So, in my case I needed the older drivers that were installed with EvoScan in order for my cable to work. Hopefully this works for the rest of you having problems.

Then that's really odd. From all of the posts that I've read, and even Hamish, are telling us to use the EcuFlash driver but not the EvoScan driver though! I'll give it a try and update here as well, Thanks Zac!!
