Differences between EvoScan and Tactrix cable?
if you have a cable you think is faulty, please return it for a full replacement, every single EvoScan cable is ecuflash v1.40 tested on an US evo8 ecu before sending, so there is no reason for it not to work.
Hamish my cable still doesn't work after reserializing. Openport 1.3U with ecuflash1.40.
Can I get some online support tomorrow?
The cables are not the problem, ecuflash decided to implement a serial number system. there are plenty of tactrix cables with the same issues, and no mods are required to the evoscan cable because they are made from the same factory, you can't say that evoscan is better than tactrix or vice versa because they are the same cable. lol. and even made by the same factory and programmed by the same person, lol.
Not to mention, here is the biggest difference I've noticed: THE TACTRIX CABLE WORKS!
These EvoScan cables need hacks, mods, pins removed, etc. which is ridiculous. Zac is not my first friend to buy one of these and have it not work. When I purchased my Tactrix cable I took it out of the envelope, plugged it into my laptop, plugged it into my car, and it worked right away. I hope you refund his money as you say you will once he sends it back; he can just keep using my cable as will the rest of my friends until a reasonably-priced cable is sold that functions as advertised. I wish Tactrix still sold theirs instead of that crazy blinky lights $200 thing. Hmm, probably only a matter of time before they're sold on eBay for cheap...

I have a tactrix and evoscan cable... I never could get the evoscan cable to work with newer versions of ecuflash but it works with my old 1.29 version just fine. My tactrix works with all versions. I uninstalled/reinstalled drivers etc...too

Interesting thread.
I'll be swapping some pinouts and installing an '03 VIII ECU into my AWD DSM in a few weeks... I'm trying to discern the cable I need to purchase to use EcuFlash and EvoScan to tune.
So it seems that the Evoscan cable only works with older versions of EcuFlash?
Apparently the openport 2.0 cable is basically worthless, although quite a bit more expensive, and the tactrix 1.3 cable is no longer available. WTF
Anybody have a copy of EcuFlash version 1.29 -or whatever works with the Evoscan cable- they could upload to a host site for those of us that are late getting into the game?

Please just send back any faulty cables. You guys are trying to find the cause, when in fact the only cause is you got unlucky with a bad cable, or you are mismatching software with the version cable you have.
Fact: Tactrix has had 20 versions of OpenPort/1.3U out there. Fact: Of course you will see differences. You don't think we just kept the same version? every batch made by Tactrix/Limitless was an enhancement on the previous version. if you have an older cable then of course you will see differences. EvoScan always had the latest version of the cable for sale, and of course EvoScan had better features, and the cables even came from the same factory for Tactrix/Limitless
so stop trying to look for differences, and unless you can post the Voltages on the pins, and post oscilliscope images on the k/l lines you will never know what is going wrong. Just post a support call, send it back, and be happy
you will get the latest version of the cable, with the latest features, better than your friends older cable. Tactrix cables are no longer sold, less features and old. Yes some tactrix cables work, and yes some tacrtix cables don't work, and yes EvoScan cables work, and I've only had 3 faulty returns in the 3 years I've been selling them. Why do you think I have time to write on here? thats because I'm not busy providing replacements, because they all work great because they are tested on Evo7/8 reflashing ecu before sending

I have sent in a ticket to you a couple weeks ago, but haven't heard back. If I could bet a replacement cable that works with any version of ecuflash, that would be great. I would prefer to use the cable i have, but i have tried 1.29a, 1.38 hacked, and 1.40 with no luck.
Tell me where you want to go from here.
Tell me where you want to go from here.
because if thats the case.. you need to move that 1 pin on the 12pin plug to here:
|N N T T N N N|
|N N N N N N P|
use a fine tip knife to pop up the lever so you can get the pin out. and put it in the side with 3x2 as above
I'm trying to understand some of the stuff that's going on. If you wish to use the EvoScan product to datalog/tune your car, and you want to keep getting new features, you have to upgrade the cable everytime you update the software? Is that accurate or am I getting it all wrong?
I am the only person (my laptop and cable anyway) who has every flashed his ECU and its always been with ECUFlash and the Tactrix 1.3 cable. We tried his cable with my laptop today and it seemed to work so we're thinking it must be something to do with his laptop (its a Mac so that part is beyond me).
