Hey guys, so like the title says, i just recently heard that you can tune the cams in and evo IX threw the mivec map. Meaning the lope, etc. Someone told me i think on here that you can adjust the lope of the cams threw mivec, meaning to make it more lopey or less lopey. I tried searching and only came up with ppl asking your same ole qeustions about what cams to get or w.e.

so has anyone seen this first hand or done it?

any vendors or tuners on here, have you seen it or done it?

im just trying to figure this out.

lopey idle = advanced mivec at idle
smoother idle = retarded mivec at idle

 

Like GST said above. By advancing the intake cam, you're increasing the overlap. More overlap typically gives you the 'lope'.

 

On FP4R IX MIVEC cams I found my smoothest idle to be with MIVEC set to -.6 in the idle range.

 

Dont forget that you need to reset the bounding limit for the minimum advance on that though. Otherwise the number doesnt do anything

Lopey idle- 14.4 to 19.2* on stock cams

smooth- -1.8* to 0*

Need a flash cable to pull down the ROM, then make a change to the map, and reflash. All the stuff you would use to retune the car basically.

 

Bounding limit... not following.

I already have a lopey idle, I'm just curious about this... where/how do you reset bounding limit?

how much difference is there really with the mivec head? seems like the 9's can get a lot better gas mileage ...am i wrong?

 

Also known as minimum and maximum MIVEC advance, its included in the newer versions of ECUflash. I know that in 1.41 its there anyway.

The addresses are:
293A is minimum advance (-1.2* is the max value)
293C is maximum advance (28.8* is the max value)

so you can actullyy make the stock evo ix cams sound lopey? idk if im following, i talked to my tuner and he said the higher the number away from zero at idle will give you the lopey idle....0 being the smoothest idle. does that sound right?

I have come to the conclusion that cranking the MIVEC to achieve a rough idle falls under some categories though:

1. Annoying
2. Ricey
3. Less stable

Why cause a headache for idle and stall situations when on the IX we can tune them away. My S2s idle almost exactly like stock, yet when I really need them to make power they will. This has many advantages from making the car drivable, maintaining a stock appearance to officers, and sleeper advantage to the Honda revving next to you at a light.
