Towards a universal ECU
Applaudd, 94170015 doesn't have ACD support, as far as I know. It's the final '04 release from what I can see, which pre-dates the US introduction of ACD in 2005.
96530006 looks like the most "feature-complete" version usable on USDM VIII Evos so far. Actually, 96940011 probably is, but as tephra has already discovered, there's simply not enough free space to make it usable without trimming code.
I fully agree that minimizing the number of ROMs would be a very good thing to do provided they will pass the OBD-II checks.
It would be nice if we could have this. it will be much easier to apply rom patches. also with obd2 maybe it could incorporate the patch that was done on this thread. i have tested it on one of my friend's car and it worked flawlessly(he had his car inspected). and based on my obd checking using scantech you dont even need to give the car a drive cycle it automatically sets them to ready!
Yes, I think 90550001 should be the standard for the VII. I also use it for all the converted cars I have done -Evo 1-6, Lancer GSR etc.
if JCbanks has plans to port over speed dencety to the 9653 rom my vote would be with it for a universal evo8 rom. but for now it is with the 9055 rom.
Would be interesting to see if you can run any Evo 7 or 8 on 96260009, and any Evo 9 on 88570008. Both have OBD, spare ROM and RAM, run all the JDM toys, can run one or two boost solenoids, but don't throw rear O2 codes (they don't have them), no EGR, don't throw P0300 codes ever etc... The prospect of really polishing just two ROMs is very appealing.
We know that 88590015 code can run in 8857008 ECU with immobiliser disabled.
We know that 96260009 will run Euro/UK Evo 260 (4 plug ECU), JDM/UK Evo 8 (3 plug) and 8 MR (3 plug), I suspect it would also run Evo 7.
If OBD tests can be set to ready, we'd simply have the task of wrenching people away from the ROMs they know if they want features that are just too big to support across many ROMs.
Tephra 5.10 is available for both these ROMs. mrfred might not be too happy since he knows his 88590015 very well and codes well for it?

I have personally ran both a 90550001 and 96530006 rom in a 97140008 ecu. So far I think there is only minor wiring changes between the two, at the moment I have the 9055 rom loaded with no wiring changes and the only problem I have is that the ecu doesn’t increase idle when the AC is on.
Does anyone have a current and semi-complete 96260009 EcuFlash XML? I'd be happy to give it a try on my 2005 USDM VIII MR, but EcuFlash doesn't ship with a description for it (although it does have 96260007), and information about that rom seems to be very spotty. Is 0007 close enough to use as a base for 0009?
Personally, I don't care what ROMs we settle on as "standard", only that they work for everyone's hardware combination (anti-lag, ACD/AYC, ICS, dual/single BCS, passes OBD-II emissions testing, etc).
(Edit: 96260007's XML looks close enough to at least play with a bit.)
