Hi G20,

I remember you from a long time ago. If you need my help, then I am available. I am off work throughout this week. It is free help BTW.

But to start with.

0. Start with a fresh map.

1. Start with a very conservative timing map to cut down on knock. I would start with about 12-13* by redline and scale back from there.

2. Make sure you know what size injectors you have. Often people buy used injectors and the seller misleads the buyer on the size of injectors. I have had that happen to a number of people whose cars I tuned. One of them was sold Denso 720s that turned out to be Denso 660s. That is one reason I do not recommend buying used injectors. I am not saying yours are, but make sure that the aize is correct. If you have doubt, then send them to RC and have them cleaned and flow tested for accuracy. They are in torrance and they provide that service.

2. Assuming they are PTE 780s, then the Scaling number that you are using is too low. As a rule, the scaling should be 10-15% smaller than the size of the injectors. So the 780 scaling should be around 665-702. Once you set the scaling and the base latency, then do the idle trim and adjust the latency numbers until you get the desired +/-5. Then do the cruise trim to get the desired +/-5

3. Set your target boost. My target on an Evo 8 is about 22 psi average peak and then the MBC takes care of the rest.

4. Start with a stock fuel map and re-do your AFR. Make sure the you adjust the entire right section of the fuel map and not just the cells that you are hitting at WOT. For example, if cell 220 @ 5000 rpm requires leaning out by about 0.3 AFR target points, then you should adjust about 4-5 cells before that cell and 4-5 cells after that cell by about the same AFR target points. That will give you a smooth AFR transition between the cells.

4. After you have set-up your AFR the way you like it, then start adding timing till you detect knock and then back off the timing and leave it at that.

If you need my help, then PM and I will give you my phone number so we can talk.

Way off topic but how did you load your map from ecuflash to maptracer in evoscan? Also how do you take a screen shot and load it onto evom? I need a computer 101. LOL

my injectors were from back to 2004 when I purchased a gt35r turbo kit with it. The seller told me they're Precision 780cc and it flows like it since it provided enough fuel for the big turbo. I sold the car and the turbo kit already and reusing the injectors on my MR.

I'll try to increase the scale value and play with the latency values to see if I can get some reasonable scale number.

Hi NJ,
wow! thank you very much for your courtesy offer me help. Yes! I remember you. There were times that I was about to contact you for the tuning service but I resisted since I want to learn the thing myself.

Your writing article about tuning the evo is the first one that I read before started. I was started with stock injectors and just recently added new pump and injectors but only modified the fuel map and increased the scale very small number.

For some reason, lazy or incompetent, I took lightly about injectors scaling and tuned individual cells (which is also very tedious and lot of work) therefore my fuel map looked out of place even the datalog was good for the last few months.

Thank and if I'm really stuck I'll know who to get help.

To capture the screen shot:
make sure the windows is active,
hold down key "Alt" and hit key "Print Screen",
open "Paint" program that came with Windows,
select Edit\Paste to paste the captured image into the paint canva,

you need to resize so that the image is small enough to upload here, you resize it by select Image\Resize... and enter approximate values for Horizontal and Vertical (i.e. 75% mean 75% of the current size)

save as jpg or gif and start uploading here....

Regarding the EvoScan Maptracer, there's a menu that contains the word "Maptracer..." that you need to select for the Maptracer screen shows up. You then select your ecuflash map file (the one that you flashed into the car) and then the datalog file. There're check boxes on the left panel of the screen that represent the logged data items. Select each item to view its tracing values. Sorry I don't have EvoScan in front so I can't remember the exact detail but let me know if you still can't get the Maptracer work so I can get more detail when I have my tuning laptop.
