Tune or flash

2003 evo 62k miles ... have 1k to spend, I want to the best performance for that amount, my options:

1. Dynoflash
2. Take it to jester tuning 45 mins away
3. stage 1 http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/A...mance.com.html

Option 3 is kinda far, dont know if jester has any similar stage and that doesnt include labor.

I have read of people getting 60hp from just a tune and a flash. I just dont want to waste my money and redo it all over againg in another shop.

Thank you for any advice.

What are your current mods? Also, Try searching. There are nice threads here that tell you what everyone else has and their gains.

I would upgrade some parts first, I've found that a TBE, MBC and flash/tune can get you very nice gains over stock. Maybe 70-100+whp.

Since your in fl. 4WS is great at tuning.

Like I said before. At least get a turbo back exhaust, manual boost controller and with that boost controller get a boost gauge. Thats at a minimum. Next you can get a drop in filter or some other type of intake. Next would be lower intercooler pipe and an O2 housing. Since you have an 8, you might want to look into getting a 255lph fuel pump.

Are you looking for new or used parts? I'm sure you can find some really cheap parts on here. TBE for around 300. MBC around 50, lower intercooler pipe around 100, O2 housing around 70, fuel pump around 80, drop in filter or cone filter around 50-80, boost gauge around 60. Give or take those parts alone will cost around 700-800. You'll have about 200 left for a tune. So a flash is good.

There is more detail on the parts you get as well. Some parts are great, and some aren't. Any 3" TBE will do IMO. Same with a cone filter or drop in filter. MBC, I'd go with a Forge unos. As for the boost gauge, a mechanical one will work fine.

hey dude dont go with dynoflash. i had a horrible experience with them a few years ago. i got my car tuned from tamer at 4WS tuning. he is awesome!! (http://4wstuning.com/). hes not super expensive like alot of the other people out there. mellon has good/great reviews from people on the forums as well.. i recommend 4WS though!

your correct. I'd still get a TBE, mbc and boost gauge then a tune. Many get around 270-300whp on a DynoDynamics.

The question is: do you have $1K to spend right now or is that all you're ever going to spend? Here's why I ask:

If you're going to spend another $1K in 6 months or so, then wait on the tune until then and do a turboback / mbc now. That way the tune will maximize the potential of your mods working together

If you want one and only one good bang for buck mod, always always get the tune
