Tuning Fuel 2009

I know there are alot of threads out there but alot of them being from 2007. I just wanted to see how everyone was doing things these days as far as lean spool on/off and AFR's. I just want to see if most of you have lean spool disabled and if not then why not.

Lean spool ON, what AFR per gear do you shoot for?

Lean spool OFF, what AFR per gear?

What about you E85 guys? I know its been said that E85 seems to have little knock at 12.0 AFR.

Thanks

using 91.
leanspool is disabled. afr during spool is 13.5 - 12.0, and @ peak 11.5 - 11.7, tapering to 11.0 @ 7000.

93 oct
ls disabled

12.5 up until 10psi, then quickly tapering to 11.3 by full boost then slowly tapering to 11.5 until redline

tune in 3rd - retest in all gears as you will hit different load/rpm cells.

Ok im new to tuning I have had my evo tuned for me and im just learning how and what to log my question is all of you are running mid 11s afr well at peek boost i hit low 11 and goes to 12.0 and holds that till redline with 22.5 psi no knock. As long as im not picking up any knock from knock sum on evoscan im safe right?

IMO 12 is high on pump. you should go for mid 11s once in boost.

I tune like most others here. 12.5 (begin spool up) - 11.8 (pk tq) - 11.3-11.5 (redline).

Lean spool off, 91 oct, 21-23 psi, and as much timing as it will take with <1 consistent knock count.

Lean spool is something that works. It gives you leaner AFR while the motor is cooler for better response and richens the mixture when things get hot for safety. All that makes for better driveability while keeping things safe. Why disable it?

I also have lean spool enabled and have tuned the Lean Spool AFR map to make for a pretty aggressive tune. Car runs mid 12s in the lower gears and progressively drops to low 11s as the time on boost (amount of heat in the motor) builds. Lean spool tuning has made the car very responsive but still runs nice and safe when I'm beating on her.

Maybe one of the ECU experts can comment on this, but it almost seems like if the knock sum goes above 0 with lean spool the AFR richens up quicker then if there is no knock?

For what it's worth though, I think you should spend more time on tuning timing advance instead of fuel.

So guys, with lean spool enabled what AFR's do you aim for in the fuel maps?
I also like the idea of having lean spool enabled (more as a safety measure) but if you tune for 11.5 AFR while in boost with lean spool disabled and then turn on lean spool, how much will lean spool change the AFR from 11.5. I would hope it doesnt change the AFR to 12.5 (as some tuners have suggested that with lean spool enabled the AFR can change but an entire unit)
