ROM's and some questions.
So i experienced some idle issues converting an '05 evo to 96530006. Sporadically - but more often then not - when rolling in neutral the car will want to stall or stall. It is quite frustrating in a parking lot. I did some investigation and the standard idle tables between 96530006 and the stock rom (96940011) are different at warm up. I changed the 96530006 values to the 96940011 values and it helped but did not fully correct the issue.
I would love to start using 96530006 only but i can't until this gets figured out.

And that is where the issue comes from.
People stick to a certain ROM because something appears to have issues at first in a ROM that may be more supportable and it may not have the exact features they want currently is where this problem comes from.
We would be MUCH better off figuring out how to make a very few number of ROMs work for everything instead of having 30 different ROMs that all have to be patched separately and have the xmls maintained.

I have been looking at the ISCV tables. I'd rather figure a way to only have 1 rom for the 8s and 9s. As someone who tunes numerous cars it is a real pain to have to keep up with mult roms.
I know what you mean, I don't tune a lot of cars, but I swear every car I have come across has had a slightly different ROM which means I have to mess with xmls every time I try to help somebody out.
Can't even imagine how annoying this would get doing it on a daily basis.
I know you and a few others see the benefit, but I was just pointing out that Fast Freddie's suggestion (although done with good intention) is the exact mentality that is keeping people from adopting a single ROM.
The multiple ROMs is definitely convenient if all you ever tune is your own car. But MAN IS IT FRUSTRATING when you are trying to tune various cars. I can only imagine how aggravating it is for all you guys finding maps and writing patches to get harassed 20+ times from requests to get a certain table or patch for every ROM under the sun.
I don't care which ROM I use, I just want something that is very well defined and has a ton of support.

no, i always read you should never touch it. Like i said it doesn't happen all the time. From what i can tell it is a rom thing. There is no reason it should work with 1 rom and not another. That means there is an issue. Plus we had just been fixing boost leaks for 2 hours so i just wanted the car to work.
One thing i would note is that i would think the ISCV setting for the IX would suit the '05s better since it looks like the '05 have the updated intake mani so i _assume_ the 9 settings would do better on the '05 than the 8 setting if there is even a difference.

I agree, being fairly new to this and struggling at times, I'd like to see a more "set" amount of ROM's used and released with support. I'd venture to say within just a short few months it would quickly turn into the normal thing to use/do rather than it seeming so difficult.
I am also willing to switch to the 96530006 ROM if someone has one I can get started with. Not sure I can find anything useful or be of help but I'd give it a shot.
BTW, Tephra, did you get my paypal a few weeks ago?

I tried and tried to remove the P0505 code I was getting by putting the car into SAS mode and setting my BISS screw multiple times. I was still receiving the p0505 code, although my idle is perfect now it still throws the code. However I found a periphery bit you can turn off to not show the code when it does happen, that is in the thread as well. Link: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/7058036-post743.html

Anything else let me know I can help with the conversion over to 9653 from 9417, I have helped many people now and know the common problems and questions...

I honestly haven't noticed any problems switching any model year of the evo 8 over to the 96530006, other than the BISS.
I have tried to stay on top of the xml files for the 96530006...sometimes it's tough when things are happening as fast as they do.
Attatched are the xml files that I'm using with most all of the new findings...Mod file is for 5.10 roms.
Hope this helps.

I was having weird idle issues when switching to the 006 ROM also, but I don't need map switching so I continue to use the 0011 ROM. If you aren't using map switching or don't intend to, send me your e-mail and I will send you a copy of my 0011 ROM as I have tons of patches incorporated already...
I don't want idle issues. The 96940011 is a resilient rom when it comes to bullsh*t. Half the time I ran the car with everything stripped out of it and didn't even have patches and it still didn't throw codes. VTA on this rom, will not stall you. Even on the stock maf. Hell it doesn't even skip a beat with a tial going wot and popping the clutch coasting to a stop.
I did it with 3 different bov's while I was sorting things out before I got the maft pro. The car just would not stall. Wouldn't stumble. The addition of SD to the situation and some very SLIGHT tinkering, makes for one of the cleanest driving evo's I have ever been in. Transitions are so clean. It's made me drop the boat anchor on the 96940011 rom. But it's not supported with any of the new toys as there is no room.
And that is where the issue comes from.

But I'm starting to have some boost control issues. I think my hallman has ingested enough methanol vapor it corroded internally, or maybe I'm starting to kill the tial's diaphragm.
Either way, I'm faced with the decision to get another mbc, and not learn anything.
Learn ecu based boost control - and set the car up on a GM 3 port or MAC.
Cheat and buy the harness and use maft pro as an EBC. Which would take me probably 5 pulls to dial in.
I've taken nearly a year off from scouring this forum daily to stay on the ball. So I know how Dave feels. It's like starting from day 1. Things move so fast here. A month goes by and you are behind the curve. It's a testament to the ingenuity of some really bright people.
At this point, I'm just trying to get things back to where I left them. I had a 96530006 rom almost ready to be ported over. But have since updated ecuflash and killed all my tailor made xml files for it.

As mentioned that seems to be the biggest burden anymore. Getting the xml files right with all the stuff I NEED to run the car where it already is.
I've set aside some extra time until I get it handled. But I need a huge refresher. Some of the new features added even to ecuflash are currently owning me.
Just FYI: if you upgraded EcuFlash, your modified XML should have been backed up in C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\backupXXX, where XXX is some number (just look at the timestamps on the directory); every time EcuFlash upgrades, it makes a backup of the rommetadata directory just in case you've changed something.
Checked it. It carried my 96940011 xml but the 96530006 is not present and accounted for. Just the stock one is in there, and teph's base patched one. But I had a combination of Razor Labs cleaned out xml - teph's and some of my own changes. And it's gone.
So I'm starting completely over.
I'd like to incorporate the boost control and I need many DTC's shut off. Port my maps, etc. Rescale. I started to just do it, then I realized IDKWTF I'm doing any more. I stepped away from it for too long. I got spoiled. I haven't really had to touch the car since last fall. And I don't tune map switching roms etc.
Feeling like an uber nub right now to be extremely honest.
I think vista ate it. Currently my ecuflash / evoscan on this laptop doesn't work right either. So I'm probably going to have to wipe it all off and start from my backup flash drive on clean installs. I noticed it when flashing a customers car last month. It would get buggy and not flash, then I plugged my car in and it wouldn't log. It dumped all my settings, nothing would stay configured.
So I'm still scrambling to get back on pace.

Are you on Vista? The 96530006 XML might be sitting somewhere in your home directory; just for grins, you might want to do a really simple search across your harddrive for "96530006.xml" just to see if it's not hiding somewhere, because EcuFlash is generally VERY good about that kind of thing, since losing your custom XML can be pretty painful (as you've already found out).
Sorry to keep going to this, since I'm sure you want to just get to work on recreating it, but it's very weird that it just "disappeared".

That's how I found the other ones. I had an issue when I updated that I had to do it like 4 times to get it to work. That's when things got f'd in the A. Then it didn't work. I grabbed MY xml, 0011 dropped it in and didn't work. Reinstalled it. - Worked. Didn't think twice.
Something got merkalated during that situation.
And it was my 96530006 xml. I had everything else backed up in multiple places. I have both an SD card backup and a flash drive I carry with me on my keychain I keep everything tuning wise backed up on and it wasn't there. I probably just didn't remember to grab it.
Cause I just checked those and because I didn't actually MOVE to the 96530006 rom maybe mentally it didn't make it to the flash drive.
But thank you for the help.
