help with my timing please.
hi all, i have an edm evo 8 with the following mods:
255ltr fuel pump
ralliart downpipe
sports cat
greddy profec b2 boost controller
3" catback exhaust.
tehpra mods 5.10
Im using 99ron fuel im not sure how that compares to the ratings you guys in the U.S have but its the highest octane rating we have over here.
my cars boost peaks at around 22.4 psi & holds around 20 psi with virtually no knock.
i dont want to increase the boost anymore as i believe that the turbo will be operating outside its effeciancy range & will do more harm than good.
so i have been reading alot about increasing the timing to give some more performance but would like some imput from the gurus on here about where i should make some changes to my high octane map
i have uploaded a screen shot of my high octane map & would like your opinions about where you think improvements could be made.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Nobody can help you without a log to see where you are transversing through the map.
Just do a log, like a single 3rd gear log, from 2500-redline and make sure to log RPM, load, knock, and timing. If you are able to log boost and AFR, add those as well.
Use that log to see what cells you are passing through on your timing map. Start upping the timing a little by little until you reach your knock threshold and then back down a bit. You can use JackofTrades Excel dyno to monitor your progress as well, although on 99RON fuel (about 93-94 octane fuel here), you're most likely going to run into knock before MBT.
Repeat until you are done and smooth out the rest of the neighboring cells and/or do the same at lower and higher boost.
Once finally done, do multiple pulls or multiple gear pulls back-to-back to see if you are still knock free. If so, good job....you just tuned your car for good safe power.
Of course, all of this is assuming that you have your AFR dialed in as well. If not, just use the same procedure. Also, monitor your AFR as you change your timing as well, as it may need to be slightly tweaked.

You make it sound so easy.
Actually it is, but it is very time, and fuel, consuming.
Get in the habit of making 3 good pulls before you make adjustments. The reason is because every once in a while the car will do "funky stuff". By logging 3 pulls you can weed out the errors.
I would recommend that before you jump on the timing, as stated above, you get your fuel looking good. Since you have an VIII on 93 octane, I recommend AFRs mid 12s durring spool and then taper to mid to lower 11s and hold that to redline. This will be conservative but safe.
Happy Tuning ! !
