in over my head with how many roms i have help
hey i just want to ask you experts what is the best way of organizing these roms and hexs ? im honestly at times confused on what i have on the car and what i edited and planed to flash and then what to compare it with... help. please lol. it feels like i have ocd or adhd when trying to rename and organize this stuff. thanks
In my "My Tunes" (not iTunes) folder I have:
20090825-1.bin
20090825-2.bin
20090826-1.bin
20090827-1.bin
20090828-1.bin
20090905-1.bin
20090905-2.bin
20090905-3.bin
etc.
Then I label pulls the same name...
Also I try to keep a tuning log... But it's hard to keep it when in the car

I should break them out into a folder but i actually name them in two ways.
First i say who the rom is of me so RoadSpike. Then I label various parts the rom is attached to like 880cc injectors or whatever is convenient so i know where the tune was when i touched it last. If i am going through a series of tunings I keep a current rom and saves of the rom with iterations of it by number higher being the last one.

I do something like this... I only have two people to deal with so I have two folders set up in my main ROM folder, one for me one for my buddy... then I label each rom as I reflash like Roadspike. ie...
Freddie_12SEP2009_EGR_OBDIIPATCH.HEX
Freddie_12SEP2009_EGR_OBDIIPATCH_V1.HEX
Freddie_12SEP2009_EGR_OBDIIPATCH_V2.HEX
Freddie_12SEP2009_EGR_OBDIIPATCH.HEX
Freddie_12SEP2009_EGR_OBDIIPATCH_V1.HEX
Freddie_12SEP2009_EGR_OBDIIPATCH_V2.HEX
I put a version number on mine and the last version is what is always on the car. I then also add key information to the rom if I've made some big change there (e.g leanspooloff).

Persons name first (John h. ROM) then a lil info (john h ROM - LS disabled, rescaled, etc) then I put a version number (john h ROM - LS disable, rescaled v1, then v2 and so on)
I also make a folder for each person and keep all the logs and revisions in it

Personally I make julian dated folders for organization (YYYYMMDD) and then just put #-some_info_about_what_changed.hex to organize which is the most recent and what changes were made.
I've always wanted some kind of diff for the ROMs to pull up or highlight what tables are changed between them. I think that would be very valuable for ECUFlash.

You can DL it for free, very easily, just google search it.
I do date, time for the hex. i keep an excel sheet with notes from each adjustment for record, keeps things nice and organized. Seems like extra work, but if you want to check something you did a month ago or in my case a year ago with a customers car makes things 10x easier.
Cheers!

I make a word file that explains all the changes made. Then, as others, the date and the name of the file by rom type....then if I am working on someone elses rom I put their name too.
Then everything gets saved in a folder.

I know this may not be possible, but it would've been real nice to be able to add notes to the actual .hex file when opened in ecuflash. That way you could have a little literature of what that hex is all about (leanspool off, periphery changes, rescaled columns etc.)
