Even when all the information has been published there will always be people who don't want to spend the time to use or understand it, thus there will always be a "service" and supporting hardware business as an offshoot.
Do the creators have a right to said industry profits? No. They can participate (tactrix) but they are not entitled because they kept it open source.
They kept it open source because they are very cool people and it is slightly sad to see less cool people turn in a bigger profit, but that is about it.
At the community level we can limit the "profit to be had" by donating to the people who put work in, learning to use the software and sharing the information instead of paying others. I believe this is the essence of what "open source" is all about.
