you should just support the hole group who makes this possible and buy a real cable.

I believe that even if you make one it will not work with ecuflash. You have to have a special something to make it recognize the cable.

Thank you amacus I mixed them up.

An assembled cable is definetly worth buying.

But if he wants to flash, I believe it's a "partial" answer. Doesn't EcuFlash check both the EEPROM's product ID and serial number? I might be assembling an extra cable soon, so I'll have to test this. (Honestly, we're at the point where someone might as well just write up an article for the wiki with a parts list and basic instructions for the 1.3 cables, since the OpenPort 2.0 cables are all Colby sells now anyway.)

mt057: are you sure Hamish added cable validation to EvoScan, and you're not thinking of EcuFlash? It's been a while since I checked, but I didn't think it cared.

boczo777: The "limitless" (EvoScan) cables are roughly similar to the OpenPort 1.3 cables that acamus posted the schematic for; he's made a couple of pin adjustments, if memory serves, but nothing too radical. They both use an FT232 chip under the hood for providing the serial interface; I'm afraid it's not as simple as hacking the plug off of a mouse cable, and directly wiring a few things; you need a serial interface as well. An FT232RQ is only $4.50 from DigiKey, so it's not an expensive addition (all the components on that drawing come to a little less than $10, so it's not that big of a deal; you're really paying for the excellent packaging that's been done).

Yes, they use some sort of "cable verification", nevertheless I cannot tell much bout boczo's electronic literacy, so I have just pointed to the schematics he wanted.

Anyway $8 for plug + $10 + PCB + shipping + time, it seems to me assembled cable is worth it, but I cannot tell how valuable boczo's time is
