Suggestion for Technical Thread Updates

All

I would like to make a suggestion that i would be glad to enforce and help with. Many many of the threads in this section start as something and fill up with massive amounts of information around the original topic.

I ask that the thread original poster keep the 1st post updated with information gathered throughout the thread, obviously of pertinent information. Many times the tephra and mrfred start great threads that fill up with information that can literally completely change by the end of the threads (some threads being 1000 posts).

I understand that the OP cannot always keep this up, especially mrfred and tephra who have hundreds of threads. I will gladly update the threads if people who find information. The ECUflash section is a pretty close community which is great it is just like finding a needle in a haystack if you have to read through some of these threads.

To have some format i will date any updates i put in the original post and will not remove or alter any information in the original post. I will simply add notes/information.

Recent example was the autosmoothing thread. Someone other than the OP made a version to support the bigmaps and i updated the original post.

Cliff notes: if you start a technical thread please keep the 1st post updated with information discovered. If someone other than the OP has information or needs the 1st post updated LET ME KNOW and i will update it.

Thanks all

-Mike

another thought to consider, remove the countless kind or nice posts & worthless posts that fill in between meaningful posts.

since a lot of that type of post are mine I'd be happy to see them gone.

This is a good idea. I'll try to be contentious of this!

Good call Mike.

I attempted this with my cold stat thread. I put the findings on the OP.

I'd just be happy to stop seeing people post "subscribed" all the time. I don't care if you subscribed to the thread, and neither do the hundreds of other people who just got an email saying that you're subscribing to the thread. Just click the damn subscribe button, and be quiet about it.

And get off my lawn.

Why not allow the OP writer the ability to delete posts that do not pertain to the topic ? ?

Then we would have the ability to moderate our own threads.

If you start a thread, you "own" it. It would be your responsibility to keep it civil and on topic.

i doubt we could get that to pass. That said, you can always request posts be removed.

Sending a request is too childish in my opinion. It's Tattle tale like.

What about assigning mods to forum sections only. Then the mod won't have as large of territory to cover, thus it will be easier to manage.

that is how it works today. Unless a Super Mod or Admin, all normal moderators only have certain sections.

Then I think some of the "super mods" need to have the reigns pulled back a bit. Then they can quit complaining that it is "impossible to be in all places as once".

Great idea. I have been preaching this for a a while. I have went back and updated my ECU boost How-To's with new, updated info. I think it should be mandatory for any How-to/MOD threads.

First, I also hate when someone post "subscribed", just to tell us all they subscribed. But about the email part, you should turn off your email notifications. Just bookmark youy User CP, go there when first coming onto the site. All you subscribed thread with new post will be there and no more nagging emails.

All the above post are off topic and Im gonna report all of them jk

But yes, Appauldd, its has always been that mods have certain forums and sub forums to moderate. So yeah, there "impossible to be in all places at once" argument doesnt hold up that well.

Calm down, no need to take a dig at the mods. Don't forget, mods are still volunteers. I am trying to help. And it is no mods job to be a thread janitor unless the posts are breaking the rules. That said, back on topic.

I realize you are trying to help. I am just tired of hearing excuses when we bring up issues.

On topic.

Technical threads will have to be scrubbed for pertinent information. What I try to do in the threads I start is to consolidate the findings on the OP. I will make the OP in blue and the findings in black. Then we don't have to hunt through 200 posts to find the valuable information.
