Not going to happen: my Internet use is email- and RSS-centric, not focused around one particular website. I'm suspect it would upset EvoM's owners to know that I haven't actually seen the home page for this site in several years; or, for that matter, any forums here other than the Midwest and EcuFlash forums unless I've been specifically given a link to something elsewhere on the site, or come across it in a search. (It'd probably annoy them even more that I haven't seen a single advertisement here in that entire time too, but that's going even farther off-topic. )

The RSS feed for this forum gives me notice that there's new posts to look at, and I can make my time use more effective by doing a similar activity (scanning forums for new posts) all in one place, all at once. I use email notifications to let me know there's activity in a thread I care about, on a forum I care about. If it weren't for those two things, you'd literally never see me here; I simply don't have enough time in the day to deal with a different interface for every website someone decides to set up, and this makes sure I (mostly) don't miss something I care about.

It's a workflow that's scaled very nicely across quite a few forums; it's how I can keep up with ECU stuff on nearly a dozen forums (at last count) fairly seamlessly, or photography stuff on quite a few other forums and blogs, or how I flooded my brain with R/C car stuff while I was going through that phase. I can count on one hand the number of websites I make a point of going to on their own on a regular basis, and only because the content on those websites is compelling enough on an ongoing basis to overcome my annoyance at how they deliver that content.

So yeah, those email notifications? Those are important to me. And that's why I get crabby about people posting garbage.

(TL;DR: I didn't leave email notifications turned on by accident; I actually use them, and I almost never just "come onto the site".)

As for the "tattle-tale" thing about clicking the report button, I just don't get that. This isn't kindergarten. If someone's making a mess of your neighborhood (tagging, vandalizing, littering), you ought to feel comfortable calling the police, because the alternative is letting your neighborhood turn into a slum. Same thing goes here; let the crap settle in other forums for all I care, but I'm happy to report posts in here.
