Well, I don't have forever, for two reasons.
1. I'm an old man.
2. I forgot the other one.

Well, I checked all connections again. Blue wire from UEGO goes to pin #2 and pin #5 is grounded on a metal bracket behind the glove box. My UEGO was installed by the local AEM dealer, who also fabbed up the logging cable for me. Therefore, I have a fairly high degree of faith in the install. Had this been installed by yours truly, I would have mucho doubto. Rechecked the voltage at the pin outs: 2.4-2.6v at idle.

I'm about to buy yet a third USB to Serial adapter. This will soon match my collection of diverter valves in both redundancy and duplication.

I've had luck with the dynex brand from best buy, it's expensive but hasn't ever let me down so it was a good investment. some customers don't see the driver cd in the package, gotta install those first

Well, I bought the third USB to Serial adapter; I now own the adapter trifecta. The new one is the Dynex bought from Best Buy. Still not connecting the UEGO and the laptop.

I did try HyperTerminal again. This program always confuses me as it insists on wanting a phone number. GRRRR! Not sure I was using it correctly, but I set all parameters to match the adapter driver. It kept giving me a error message saying, UNABLE TO OPEN COM PORT 2. Then it says to recheck my parameters. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

LOL and you think a LC1 isnt complicated.

If you like simple, the only answer is Zeitronix.

Tried the new USB to Serial adapter with a different laptop tonight. Nadda.

Tried disconnecting the ground, as suggested in the UEGO cable trouble shooting thread. Nadda, as that causes the blue screen of death on the laptop.

So, the only think I've not tried is replacing the entire car with a Subaru. j/k

I'm attempting to borrow a laptop with a serial port. I don't mind buying yet another laptop if that's what it takes. I just don't want to buy one and then have that not work either.

Oh, I did try HyperTerminal as well tonight. Got a bunch of what looked like non-coherent ASCII characters on the screen in spurts, not like a steady data stream. Weird.

Assuming you have setup HT correctly then this proves that the cable/communication from the UEGO is not setup correct. HT should show you the readout from the AFR e.g 14.9 over and over and over again.

Could you describe step by step how you are attempting to connect with HT?

HT is set to communicate over COM2 at BPS=9,600, DB=8, P=N, SB=1, FC=hardware.

Driver for Dynex USB to Serial adapter is also at the same settings as above, also on COM2.

Female serial from UEGO plugs onto male serial end of USB adapter.

I connect the cables first, then boot the laptop, load HT, check all settings, and then start the car.

I sure hope I'm doing something wrong. Much easier to correct ignorant behaver than trouble shoot software and hardware.

Sounds about right. Could be just the cable is bad.

Wow! I did not realize how few laptops have a serial port these days. I finally tracked down a ten year old "laptop" in storage that has a serial port. It also has way too little RAM, is much too s-l-o-w, and is running Windows ME. Apparently the Tactrix cable driver is not compatible with ME??? Could not get my WiFi card to work either. So, I can't access on-line drivers, etc.

In any case, using a copy of HyperTerminal off of another laptop I attempted to capture the data stream from the UEGO directly through a serial port. Nothing.

Here is my question: Is it possible to have the expected voltage at the serial logging cable, but not have an actual data stream from the UEGO? Could my UEGO be working fine at the gauge, but have some kind of internal failure of the serial data stream?

I really could use some input on this...

Sorry I forgot, but are you able to log when not trying to log the AEM?
