Sounds like spark breakup to me, put a fresh set of plugs in and gap them correctly see if it goes away.

well i actually have some BPR8ES plugs coming in the mail to hopefully take care of some of that knock, maybe kill 2 birds with 1 stone. What should i gap them to? .025 good enough for a starting point? Service manual says .024 to .028 but thats is for iridium. Anybody have any opinions on the Magnecor wires?

FYI, the BPR7ES plugs i have in now probably only have 1000 miles on them.

Thanks everybody for all your help. I've got a few more things to try now so maybe I can finally scare this bad spirit out of the Evo.

.025 is perfect.

I had a misfire awhile ago. running 23 psi flat, sounded just like your vid.

Changed plugs and wires but it only went away after gapping down from .028-.030 down to ,025

been perfect for 18 months, and I run 25 tapering to 23 psi now...no misfire

well then that narrows it down to the wires. Any suggestions on a good set? Or are the stock ones just fine?

if you are hitting your boost cut you are overboosting now that you have fixed the leak. make sure you dial down the boost to what it was tuned at. also that sounds like spark blow out. you may need to tighten down the gaps a bit.

I still have to fine tune my boost, which I haven't been able to do because of the misfire and overboosting due to the gash in a vacuum line and other gremlins. I was starting to get discouraged with the whole tunning thing. I think I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just hope its not a train.

Stock wires work just fine. Have run them to over 500whp.

They are pretty cheap as well so I usually just get a fresh set every year.

Stock wires are cheap? Cheap for me would be some OE replacements. Does anyone ever replace the boots on the coils?

Ok, so I have one more lingering question. It's about this Misfiring Detection thing. Does this explain why I'm not getting a CEL for the misfires?

I took my plugs out today and checked the gap and they were at about .025 then i checked the gauge with my calipers and it was of by .005. So the plugs were actually at .030. I regapped and wouldn't you know, the misfire was gone.
