ECUflash - turn off read/flash???
I use a small Netbook for tuning, flashing and data logging. The little computer works great, but there are times when I'd like to work on a ROM at my desktop computer. However, unless I bring in my Tactrix cable from the EVO, and keep it plugged into the desktop computer, ECUflash will invariably lock up at some point. Is there a way to disable the need for ECUflash to make calls to the Tactrix cable?
my ecuflash never crashes tactrix or non
do you have wifi at your home? you could always send the file over the network to your desktop from the netbook while its still in the car.
you shoukld have just enough range on your home wifi out to your drive

I don't think that's the problem.
The program itself will lock up on the desktop computer unless the Tactrix cable is plugged in. The program insisted on installing the Tactrix driver when I installed ECUflash on the desktop.
Moving my tune from the Netbook to the desktop is not an issue. The issue is having ECUflash installed on a computer that does not need to be connected to the ECU.
Are you suggesting that I remotely run ECUflash on the Netbook in the car, but control it from the desktop in the house?

I've used ecuflash on other computers without having the cable. Most of the time I'll bring my laptop into the house, but without the cable, while editing tunes, it never crashed before.

My question is about my desktop computer. If nothing else has been plugged into the USB port since the Tactrix was last plugged in, the desktop computer is fine as well. However, I have a lot of other USB devices and everytime I load up ECUflash on the desktop it wants to find the cable.

Same here. When I bring the Netbook into the house it works fine w/o the Tactrix cable attached.

are you saying you get a message ecuflash must close as no tactrix connected
you have a PC issue not a ecuflash issue
i fact i think the drivers for the tactrix are installed with evoscan not ecuflash
secondly why would you want to plug in the tactrix to your desktop!

When using ECUflash on my desktop computer to work on a ROM it will inevitably lock up. Might be in a minute, might be in 10 minutes. But it always happens. Through the process of elimination I discovered that if the Tactrix cable is plugged into the desktop computer ECUflash does not lock up.
I'm open to any ideas.
Thanks,
Jim
I don't have any of these issues I'm thinking Jim may have something related to the USB ports.
I recommend doing a driver update on your computer for the chip makers driver set if that be Intel or whatever.
btw what OS are you running?
and if you need help finding the driver sets tell me the make and model of your computer or if you can read me the model number on the motherboard i can get it from those.

Definitely a PC specific problem of some sort. I never have that cable plugged in when doing random edits for 4+ years now.
When it locks up can you get over to taskmanager and see if its ECUFlash itself that is taking up the system resources or something else?
