I always advocate the UEGO for the budget minded. The Zextronics is probably the best, and most expensive, option but gives you more flexibility than AF readings.

Its not a good idea. Evos are tuned fairly rich from the factory but if you baught the car used you dont know if its been tempered with. If you start changing the mived map you run the chance of leaning it out to an unsafe level. Even if you are not picking up knock you can still damage parts by overheating. You have a 30k car...its worth it to invest in a wideband, its only around 200$
